Best Part of the Day-
My first-born is 5!!! She LIVES for birthdays. You could say "yeah, what kid doesn't?" Well I never liked mine so I've always been in awe of how much this child loves hers...
Anyhoo, today was Birthday Kick-Off day as it seems to go with kids these days--it is a many day celebration of life and gifts and sweets. (Big party in 11 days when Will-O is back in town for a day.)
Scarlet was dressed head-to-toe in birthday declaring gear: shirt, hat, frilly skirt that screams par-tay and a ribbon stating the facts--I am 5.
I delivered cupcakes to her class for the morning snack and it was the cutest. Scarlet was beaming with pride as it was her special day, I was her mom and these were her cupcakes to share with her class. She told me after school that I had made the best choice by getting a mix of vanilla and chocolate cake with a choice of frosting colors AND gender neutral rings imbedded in the frosting. Whew.
Worst Part of the Day-
I experienced a mini "grieving day" today. I kept hearing about this from friends who have gone through a similar marriage situation and today was the day. It was not a bad sadness, it was perhaps a necessary release of sadness: why is it like this, why are you/we not normal, how did this happen? I had tears streaming down my face for a good 60 minutes. Don't worry--it was well after the cupcake delivery and way before picking up the kids.

My fifth birthday was Awesome. I had a bunch of family members back from Vietnam (and I am not talking sightseeing).
I received my first Notre Dame football jersey. And I had a cake the shape of a football. Interesting that I can remember 5 but have not recollection of birthdays 6-15.
