Best Part of the Day-In the late afternoon Will-O and I had S.'s parent-teacher conferences. It was quite fun to talk with her teachers about our Miss S. It was little surprise that she is excelling in both dance and drama. Each of those teachers are also young (late 20's) and S. LOVES them so. The drama teacher said, "I don't yet know all of the K-4 kids' names, but I know Scarlet." It was cute. Apparently she is a good listener in the class room setting. (Why does that not carry over to soccer practice??)
Worst Part of the Day-
I volunteered to be a chaparone for Scarlet's class field trip to the pumpkin farm. (It was fall time fun, for sure: hay ride to the patch, hunting for the perfect pumkin and picking it out, corn maze, petting zoo, etc.)
On the bus back to school the kids were tired and getting cranky/wild. I over heard some boys in another class (all 3 kindergarten classes went on this trip) saying "the middle finger" and laughing. I, being the responsible grown-up, heard this and got my teacher voice all set and said, "We don't talk like that--it is not impressive." The boys stopped immediately and looked down at the bus floor. The worst part is that this whole exchange intrigued Scarlet immensely. At this point, the only "bad" word she has ever heard of is shut up, and clearly we do not use this word in the home--she just knows it's out there. She kept asking "What's the middle finger? What does that mean? Why is it bad?" I remained mum and stated that we are not going to discuss it on the bus. I just know she will be pumping kids on the playground tomorrow for the skinny on this allusive middle finger business--doh.
Just like one of Will-O's lyrics from a song he wrote 10 years ago: Don't listen to what those filthy public school kids say...
