Worst Part of the Day-
Who would guess Round #1 of Trick or Treat would be today's Worst Part? The kids were a lot to handle--Scarlet was feeling "shy" (you are kidding me!) and Liam wanted to run anywhere and everywhere he should not. I had complete strangers offering to help me or hold things as it was apparent I did not have a handle on the situation. Liam reflexively shoved each received piece of candy into his mouth with the wrapper on and then attempted to walk into each and every home. Therefore I had to disrupt the smooth line of kids waiting to receive their entitled treat by pushing myself in between the confused kids to extract Liam from each and every doorway/vestibule. Each person handing out the candy would say the same thing: "Whoa, not in there Little Guy!" and they would be perplexed that Liam would truly want to enter their home. Each time I would scoop him up and he would cry and the people would stare. This went on for a long while--at every damn home.
Scarlet was ill prepared for the vast dip in temperature (well everyone was) and was freezing at the end of the hour and a half journey for sweets. ("But witches don't wear sweaters!!!") She ended up being carried by one of the dads as I was tied up carrying Liam roughly 12 blocks (biceps were burning.) Another mom ended up carrying both of my kids' bags and props. I have to admit it was not that fun. I owe all of the helpful adults--big time.
Between the hours of 4pm and 6pm, my costume morphed from a slick Andy Warhol to a very realistic tired/deflated Mommie Dearest, Scarlet went from a cute witch to a Bosnian refugee, and Liam went from the most adorable bumblebee ever to the messiest-faced bee (and most crazed/non-compliant trick of treater) ever. At least I will be clued in to these shenanigans when we attempt Round 2 of T. or T. this Friday...
Best Part of the Day-
1. Meeting Cuz S. and Boston visitors Joe and Stacy for brunch this noon (I was a full hour late--very par.) Wonderful to see the out-of-town family and my kids were thrilled to see "Luscious Peaches" (Scarlet's colorful pet name for Joe) and Stacy in our home for a lil' play time prior to their flight. Liam wept serious tears for minutes and minutes after they departed.
2. Pea Pod grocery delivery service. I love you, internet shopping! I love you, right to my door delivery! I love you, one less task for me to do!!!
