Worst Part of the Day - Starting the trip with the gas tank on empty is no way to begin a sojourn to the airport that is already stressful to begin with (plus we had to turn off the a/c which left me sweating in my light travel sweater). Mild fight with Erik regarding gas tank. Like I had NOTHING else on my mind. Checking in - fine. Security - a breeze. Getting on the plane? Cluster f$#k. IMP melting down. SB suddenly frightened of boarding. I just lifted the two of them up and down the aisle I went. (We were on Southwest and isn't it weird that no one sat in my row? heh heh. Hell - I didn't want to sit in my row.) IMP only placated with Oreo cookies (the 'golden' kind). Then the plane starts to move and both kiddos FREAK out - IMP is actually throwing himself against me. Then we're in the air and things calm down a bit (thanks to the DVD playa' on a continual loop of Blues Clues.) IMP breaks out in the weepies about every fifteen minutes until he finally falls asleep in exhaustion. Then we finally land and we get to the baggage claim and I still can't get a hold of my dad (I've been trying him for 15 minutes now). A nice woman watches the kiddos as I lug the 4 (!) bags to the front doors of Midway Airport. After getting the kiddos to the front door, I realize that I have to cross the street to get to passenger pick up. Uh oh. Still no call from dad. Could he have forgotten his cell phone? Forgot about the time change? SB runs into the road and I about bowl over a man as I run for him. A kindly Go Bus operator helps me with my bags and refuses a tip "get something for them" he says pointing to the boyz. Hmmm - like maybe a leash? FINALLY Dad calls back. Seems his phone was on vibrate. He picks us up two minutes later and we head to Michigan. Sigh.
Best Part of the Day - Arriving at the cottage!!! The boyz are in heaven looking at all the 'new' stuff. And SB slept in a big boy bed (after I slept there with him for 45 minutes until he fell asleep). Bliss to be done with that dreaded plane ride!
