Worst Part of the Day - Now I'm full blown ILL - don't know what it is. Feels like some flu symptoms but not quite. My throat feels like knives are sticking into it. Even small sips of ginger ale is PAINFUL. I got the kids to preschool (a major feat - I was shuffling like an old man) and then went to the rental house and laid down on the carpet and slept.
Erik called later in the day and told me his mom had strep. Whoa - started antibiotics after eating some saltines. Erik home about 5:45 p.m. and I went to bed for the evening. I felt the antibiotics kick in - but still have a major headache.
Best Part of the Day - Antibiotics. I heart you Western Medicine.

Worst Part of the Day - Woke up this morning feeling not well. Achey and sore throat and headache. Ugh.
Best Part of the Day - Kiddos pretty well behaved (thank God), playing together and entertaining themselves. Erik got home early and took the kiddos to the park. Later in the day I took some ibuprofen and felt better.

Best Part of the Day - Dropped boyz off at preschool and then headed over to the rental house. I vacuumed the whole thing, cleaned out the fridge and packed up some last items. Looking good - can't wait to be free and clear of that place.
Worst Part of the Day - Headed to Best Buy and returned (another) non-working remote relay system. Then learned my only other option was the MUY EXPENSIVE universal remote (the kind that goes through wall of course). Sigh - oh well hopefully it will solve the problem. I got home and started to set it up and got it halfway working (it will not control the tv, but won't turn the tv on and off). OH my - much time spent on this project (and why so complicated to set up???)

Best Part of the Day-
Both chitlins were snoozing (snoring, even) by 6:55pm. Whew. They were beat from serious rough housing play with their Poor Ol Pa. (Man, I am so pleased that males enjoy that physical play--I would much rather do puzzles with them...) It was an amazingly efficient bedtime. No tears, no fuss, no stalling.
Worst Part of the Day-
I assisted the pregnant resident at work to call her OB/GYN and attempt to get the results of her amniocentesis from last week. (Her initial labs screening for Down's Syndrome was "high" and she had the amnio done right away.) I scripted the call out for her and had her do the dialing, the talking, etc. I really wanted her to KNOW the results (and she is aching to know) and start the planning, educating process, talking with family, etc. Does the baby have Down's Syndrome??? The nurse at the Dr. office said the results were back, but the doc hadn't reviewed and they would call ASAP when he did. No call back today and this resident left this eve for a weekend pass to home. More waiting. Agonizing waiting. A tall order for anyone (let alone a pregnant teen with very little skills).

Best Part of the Day-
Will-O took Miss S. to his mom's for a mid-week sleep over. She was stoked for the social gathering as is standard. Immediately after school and her First Stage class, she packed her overnight bag like a pro and was off. Her parting words, "I know you'll miss me, Mom, but I have so much to do these days..."
Worst Part of the Day-
Little Man L. awoke with his eyelids crusted shut like a blind man in the 1800's. He was not pleased. Good ol telltale sign of viral conjunctivitis (ie, cold in the eye). Poor dude. At least it is all draining and getting out. (Had to cancel my Chicago trip and CPR course. Doh.)
Side Note:
Couldn't even watch MU game as my bourgeois ass don't got no cable. (Well, I really don't want it...) I put in one of my Netflix: Farewell, My Concubine. Ewww. After the small, effeminate boy gets his 6th finger chopped off by his prostitute mom, left with strangers to raise him, beaten daily and then sodomized my a toothless old man with long, scraggly hair, I just had to end the viewing. Farewell, indeed, all of you concubines.

Best Part of the Day-
Did get the hair highlights (I start to lighten it up around this time of year...). I heart Aveda and all they are about...
Scarlet told me, "Mom, I LOVE you hair! Now you look exactly like Hannah Montana!!"
Liam could care less about my hair, but was fixated on my Beatles t-shirt, but insisted the Beatles were "the Wiggles!" Zoinks.
Worst Part of the Day-
Liam was still not feeling up to par. No fever, but something is up.

Best Part of the Day-
Feeling grand about gettin er done: work, bills, TAXES (well, almost done) and tv show pilot (come on!).
Worst Part of the Day-
Little Man L. was FREAKING out in the night time. He once again awoke with screams and tears and the demanding "mama! dada!" After I deduced he did not have a fever (he could have a cold...) and he denied anything hurt, I began to play Bad Cop. I put him in his bed and let him cry (scream at the top of his lungs!) and employed the Super Nanny method of emotionlessly placing him in his bed for the 40 minutes and 40 attempted escapes that followed. Finally he got the picture. (I hope our next door neighbor couldn't hear the screams...he was laying it on super thick. Thank heavens Scarlet sleeps like a rock.) At the end, he let out a sigh and an "alright" and snuggled up on his own.
Will I ever sleep longer than a 2-hour block? Ever?

Best Part of the Day - Hit the new gym and while it is much further than the old gym (20 minutes as opposed to 3 minutes) - the Group Power class was NOT packed. Whoa - it was a very unstressful set up for me. Loved it. Then the boyz and I went to Super Target where they were placated with popcorn and I picked up some items.
Worst Part of the Day - Went to Best Buy to return the stupid, non-working remote relay system and they did not have another one. So off to another Best Buy to buy it. Got it home ... not working. AARRRGGH. All I want is to control my tv without going into another room.

Worst Part of the Day - Awake to a chipper Wes singing and talking and kicking (Keek! Keek! And then the legs go flailing.) It's 6:20 a.m. kiddo and no one (I mean no one) could have slept well last night.
No vino and Oscars (which is my sole tradition) this evening. Just wasn't my year as I had not seen ONE Best Picture nom.
Best Part of the Day - Erik and I take nap shifts and at least get some snoozing in (I had a delish 1 hour and 45 minute nap and then a 15 minute hot shower). Later in the day we head over to Chris and Ann's to pick up Clarence ze dog. We (of course) end up hanging out, letting the kiddos play and then ordering in dinner from this yummy Asian place (I had chicken in red curry sauce - amazing!) Got the kiddos home and in bed at just past 7:30 p.m. Erik and I in bed at 8 p.m.
Oh and the basement?? KEY - all the toys are now contained. Lovin' it.

Best Part of the Day-
Will-O took the kids to the Y and just plain out for 3 hours this afternoon. I had some cleaning time and took a nap. Divine.
Worst Part of the Day-
As soon as I was leaving the house for my 10pm (ahem) soccer game, I heard Liam shout out in the night. Then I heard screaming and coughing and the sound of puking. Oh mylanta. He ended up screaming and crying all night long. He did not throw up any more and had no detectable fever. Something was up and Little Man L. made it clear he did not feel well. Not much was pleasing to him. I promptly skipped with game. I tended to him for 2 hours before I had a moment to take off my uniform and shin guards. Long night.

Best Part of the Day-
Finally got out of the house and joined Will-O at the wedding reception of his cousin. We ended up having a genuinely relaxed and enjoyable time. I did give W. a run down of acceptable date behaviors prior...afterward he did say "thanks, I wouldn't have known all of those..." (oh my). I made him dance and mingle he was a thoughtful companion. (His family is all cool and fun, too, so that helps.)
Worst Part of the Day-
It is MY issue. It is f-ing challenging for me to get out of the house when a sitter is a'comin. I feel like I spend a large portion of the day cleaning for the sitter (my issues) and making meals and snacks to make it easier for the sitter. By the time I have tidied for the sitter, I am bordering on exhaustion and no where near acceptable readiness for socializing.
Compounded with the fact that Liam was a complete nightmarish destruct-o today. When I ran down to do laundry at one point, he threw down and shattered 3 (all 3 that are even in the family room!) picture frames...omg. He broke the actual wooden frame on one. Another time when I ran up to brush my teeth, he had turned on the water in the kitchen and proceeded to spray down the entire kitchen--walls, floor, ceiling. He just stood there looking pleased and said, "dishes!" as if his antics counted as his daily chore. Oh me oh my.

Best Part of the Day-
End of productive as heeeel week. Loved my 2 beer maximum and FNL.
Worst Part of the Day-
My mom offered to take Miss S. to a play at her school: Suessical the Musical. Miss S. was got gussied up (I dare say she wore the same dress that she sported as Flower Girl in Cuz K.'s wedding...) We trekked out in "the middle of the night" per the kids, (but 6pm to normal peeps) to meet my mom half way. We were stopped dead on the highway many, many times in the Friday rush hour madness. It took far too long to travel the measley 12 miles. At one point, I wondered, seriously? I have not moved for minutes on this major highway.... It turned out I was the second, non-involved car behind a 12 car pile up. Nice. (No one appeared to be injured.) A ton of banged up cars and pissed off drivers.

Best Part of the Day - Well I have to hand it to Erik - the tv in mounted on the wall. His brother Chris came over and they had it up in under a hour. Wow. We drive to Hilton Head today to pick up the kiddos and then stay overnight. Easy, quick drive (under four hours). The boyz were inside playing with Papa and having a wonderful time.
Worst Part of the Day - When we to to Hilton Head, I noticed Johanna (Erik's mom) was not there. Then Papa told us that she was laid up with the flu ... um, we better GO! So we fed the kiddos dinner, ate dinner and then headed BACK. We never saw Johanna, but had a very nice dinner and chat with Erik's dad. The drive home was BRUTAL. Both Erik and I were SO tired. Then we got home and both boyz woke up and when we took them to their rooms .... NO WAY. They had no idea where they were it was late and all so new. So all ended up in bed with us - hard to settle them down (why do two little bodies take up so much room??) Oh exhaustion - will you ever leave me?

Worst Part of the Day - Cable company came out to do the install and could not find the cable for the tv in the living room. Odd - we know from photos that they had the tv in this room. So he hooks up the tv downstairs and leaves. Erik's brother comes over to drop off clothes we left at their house and I show him the tv. He pounds the wall for a minute and then pops out a piece that had been drywalled and then painted over. Huh. Then he pulls a bunch of cables out of the wall. THEN the cables thread through the walls and come out in the office. Huh. Looks like the previous owners had the house totally wired for tv and for music but then drywalled over it?? Maybe to make the house show better? Anyway - I get cable guy back out here (such a nice guy) and he actually wires the thing for me (threads the new cable wires through the wall). So the TV works - BUT you have to change the channel in the office. So I head to Best Buy and buy this remote transmitter option that should solve this. You know it ain't easy.
Best Part of the Day - Cable guy did fix our internet (same company as the cable) and it is nice n' fast now! Also Erik got home early and we got the boyz beds put together. Then we set up their rooms. Today I cleaned off the island and got all the boxes out of the living areas (now they are all in the garage or the spare bedroom upstairs. Oh my - much to do!) Also had a feeling of what can only be called joy when I entered Super Target today. Then Erik and I headed out to dinner for our last kid- free evening (so fun!)

Worst Part of the Day - Did you know that you can't change the outside of your house in any way (according to our HOA) without some sort of architetchual study/survey/whatever? Huh. No satellite tv for us (but I did bully Time Warner into sending someone over tomorrow). Ran over to Fellsway house and cleaned out the fridge and freezer (and also grabbed some other crap that did not make the move). I am starting to look and smell like a homeless person.
Best Part of the Day - Got my mom to her flight on time - THANK YOU MOM. We could not have done it without her. She unpacked the entire kitchen and gussied up the guest room (her room) for her babysit/visit in March. The gasman came and turned on the heat! HOORAY! Got Clarence from the kennel and then (finally!) took a lovely, hot, soapy shower. Found a Thai Restaurant downtown. It took us under 20 minutes to get there and it was delish!

Worst Part of the Day - Wake up to a downpour on my moving day. Sigh. But the movers arrived promptly and seemed like nice guys. At first I thought they were going slow and then they picked it up. But then slow again and then they picked it up. Toward the end of the loading process, my mom and I noticed that they were just standing at the truck. Just standing. Just standing. So I head out and suddenly there is a flurry of activity. Huh. But we are heading to do the unload at the new place and (from my past four moves) I know that this takes about half the time of the load. So we are all good. But the unload took FOREVER! One guy would go up the truck and grab one thing and head down, stop and then try to figure out where to put it. I finally just stood outside in the drizzle to supervise. When they hit 10.5 hours, they all of a sudden starting picking up the pace (coincidence that I had a 11 hour not to exceed on the contract?? My mom noticed and didn't even know about the 11 hour not to exceed).
Also we have some sort of a leak (according to the water company) but they did leave the water on. AND did you know that I needed to call a separate utility for gas which is the heat to our house? I missed them this morning and the they would not come out and so no heat and no hot water. At least the computer is set up but it's slow.
Best Part of the Day - Did purchase a tv. Did ride home in the trunk of the car (the tv took up the backseat). Did have a nice, vino-full dinner with Erik and mom. Glad the day is ova'!

Best Part of the Day-
I received a call from my mom at around 10am reporting an impromptu dinner gathering at her house tonight. (Seanie and Alli coming from Chicago + my dad outta town = parrrrtayyy! Just kidding, Dad.)
It was funny and entertaining. Happy Hour started promptly at 5 and Babs cooked up some of her home made goodness--yum! The kids and dogs and peeps happily ran around and around--much family fun. It aint a Cahill get together if you can actually complete a conversation...or a thought. Woo-hoo.
Worst Part of the Day-
I was excited to go to my parents' to look in Brother Michael's stashed college stuff--all in hopes of locating his Final Draft software. Despite me looking in every (dusty) closet and in the "new" (dusty) basement and "old" (very, very dusty) basement. I was a swollen eyed, allergic mess when I left...empty handed.

Best Part of the Day-
I was feeling sleepy in the wee morn following my gang night last night, so I was letting Liam bend some major rules. (it was fun.) At around 7am, Liam said, "I want to eat, eat." I said o.k., buddy...just snuggle with me a sec and we'll go down. He said, "one minute" and went down on his own and I thought, I'll give him a minute. I heard him coming back up the steps in a few moments. He was carrying a bag of white cheddar popcorn and saying, "eat". (I have a strict no food policy anywhere except the kitchen/dining...obviously not upstairs!!) But today I let him in the bed with the bag of food (I was gonna change the sheets today anyways). Liam proceeded to feed me popcorn while snuggling with me for about 20 minutes. A whole new meaning to breakfast in bed.
Worst Part of the Day-
As I was putting the chits down (at 7pm..ahem) as was going well, though they were both winding down in their respective rooms with lights on. They were quietly talking/reading to themselves and I was downstairs tidying up. At 7:45pm, Scarlet screamed and ran out of her room saying, "I heard a scary sound in my room!" She was white as a sheet. Liam then ran out of his room after hearing his sister's shriek. I went in her room with her and heard a thump on the window. I looked outside the her blind and saw an unexpected Will-O on the front lawn throwing snowballs at her window. omg. He clearly did not know they were on the verge of slumber (lights on), but da-hude (7:45pm). His intentions were not to create an uproar. But it did. It took another hour-ish to get the kids down.

Best Part of the Day-
Gang night! Alright, it truly is a gang of drinkers...fun, though. I was getting slap happy via my drinkies: "zebras make me nauseous..." may have been one of my quotes. Oh my.
Worst Part of the Day-
My cellie is quite low on battery power...can't locate the charger...even if I could I haven't sat long enough in one place to day to be able to charge it...

Best Part of the Day - Had the boyz off to preschool, dropped the dog at doggie day/night care, ran to the grocery store, picked up lunch ... by the time I got home Gigi was 95% done with the kitchen. Then she picked up the boyz from preschool and drove them to Columbia, SC where she met with Johanna (Erik's mom) to give them to her. (We will pick them up in Hilton Head on Saturday after we unpack the house.) That is a RELIEF to get the boyz and the dog in safe, fun places so we can attend to the business at hand!
- We couldn't have done it without you Gigi!!!
Worst Part of the Day -
Communication - a short play by Molly Lovett
Three Weeks Ago
Me - Erik, it is finally time for you to live the dream and buy a new tv. But you have to do it prior to the move because of the installation of the satellite deal.
Erik - okay
One Week Later
Me - I've looked at some tv's online -have you talked to anyone or looked?
Erik - Plently of time. No I haven't looked
Me - Okay - but we don't want to have to pay to have the install guy come out twice and it would be nice to do it while the boyz are gone.
Erik - Mumbles
Today
Erik - Should we just do Best Buy tomorrow?
Me - Well are you prepared to just buy one tomorrow without doing any sort of comparison shopping (yes I did say "comparison shopping")
Erik - Why would I have to buy one today?
Me (calmly, sucking in my breath repeat the exact phrase I used three weeks ago)
Erik - Oh. I guess I remember the conversation, but didn't' remember that it had to be done that soon. (Pause) Can't they do the install without a tv?
Me - No, I don't so.
And scene.
Epilogue - did you know Best Buys close at 9 p.m.? And banging on the door won't make them open (just kidding).
- We couldn't have done it without you Gigi!!!

And scene.
Epilogue - did you know Best Buys close at 9 p.m.? And banging on the door won't make them open (just kidding).

Best Part of the Day - Gigi watched the boyz while I worked out, went to the library and hit the grocery store. So easy to do without the little ones. Also had Quinn's last speech appointment with Miss Emily (he will be switching to a new speech path closer to our new home). She gave him a pack of ABC cards and had teddy cookies for both boyz. She said that she truly looked forward to him each session, that he is going to be an excellent talker and that she will keep tabs on him. Tear.
Working together with Erik and GiGi - we got the house at least 50% (if not more) packed this evening. GiGi tackled the kitchen and had it 80% done by 11 p.m. Erik and I worked stress free (maybe it helps to have another party around?) to git 'er done. Feeling MUCH better about this .... and still have all day tomorrow.
Worst Part of the Day - Okay anyone had enough of me talking about how stressed I feel? Me too, so I'll just shut it up.

Best Part of the Day - Reinforcements arrive! Gigi is in da house. The boyz are STOKED to see her (if she leaves the room they get all pouty "where GG go?") Erik also arrived home - a little hoarse from his weekend o' fun, but he sucked it up and took me out the house so we could decide where furniture will go. Then took me out for Valentine's Day dinner (day late) and even offered Cheesecake Factory for dessert ... .but I decided to let him off the hook as he looked beat.
Worst Part of the Day - Still thinking about the packing, but no action as of yet. Also have to get the boyz stuff ready for their trek to Hilton Head to stay with Nana and Papa for the move .... but no movement on that either. Just want the next couple days OVER with.

Best Part of the Day - Gym with the kiddos and then off to McDonald's Playland. The little ones climbed and ate and climbed and ate and .... you get the picture. No wonder people love MickeyD's. I just sipped iced tea and vegged out and watched them. Also a school pal of Quinn's (Hannah) was there and it was hilarious. Her dad then told me that Hannah talks about Quinn all the time. That cracked me up. Erik at the Marquette game in Milwaukee and the boyz and I are just chilling out.
Worst Part of the Day - Packing, packing, packing. OH I didn't actually DO any packing - just mentally stressing about it.

Best Part of the Day - We closed on that dern house. Erik was given the day off (and at first was thinking 'oh I'll either let you go with the kids or we'll all go.' I had a third idea (as I have power of attorney) that I would go alone. This came to pass. I felt elation and a lifting o' the stress for at least 35 minutes.
Also did have some alone time with the tv and computer. Relaxing.
Worst Part of the Day - Now I have to pack? boooooo. Also did drink some celebratory champagne (by myself) and it did not sit right with me. Also gave Erik a last minute ride to the airport (nice to know these things prior!) and ended up with Wes taking a snooze on the way home so then nap time was traumatic. Oh my Oh my Oh my.

Best Part of the Day-
Liam went pee pee on the potty (lyrics to my made up maniacal toilet training song) twice today. He just popped up from playing both times and said with a smile, "Pee pee!" Straight away I took him to the bathroom and he went perfectly! It was/is amazing as we have done no official training. The mini potty is simply present in the bathroom and I know he is darn sure of why it is there. He did it, he did it! (Another original mama song...)
Worst Part of the Day-
No mail, no Netflix. (Happy President's Day.)
Jammed my pinky finger in last night's soccer game. It makes my witch-like hands even more gnarly.

Best Part of the Day-
1. I dropped Miss S. off for a 3 hour play date and thought I would amuse myself with running errands sans little ones. Instead I drove to the lake front and wrote an entire pilot for a dramatic tv series. (Someone had a bit to get off her little chest...) I also took myself on a date to my beloved Jimmy John's....
2. Played exponentially better in tonight's soccer game.
Worst Part of the Day-
1. I wanted to go to Trader Joe's while on was in the 'hood and while I was solo. Too bad it was a living nightmare filled with billions of Northfaced clad folk buying two buck Chuck by the case. Ahhh! I had to abandon my empty cart and get the hell out of there.
2. The soccer game was at 10pm....seriously.

Best Part of the Day-
My long (relatively) hours at the work force as of late may have just paid off. I was given the award of Employee of the Month--for January. Holy cats. It is kinda dorky, but I accepted it with pride. (They must not be aware that I blog while at work...just kidding...maybe). I received a certificate, a small cash bonus and a limerick written by my nutty co-workers. A pleasant surprise!
Worst Part of the Day-
A rough day on the Will-O front. We all went to work out this am and I thought it was pretty thoughtful that he was offered to take the kiddies to a friend's to hang out with 3 dads and their kiddies and watch college basketball while the lot of them played. Perfect. I had worked for a few hours in the late morn and was looking forward to cooking a yummy organic meal (my once a week meal) and having some quiet time. I delivered he and the kids to the b-ball gathering at around 1pm. (I knew there would be some social drinking so I didn't mind being the driver, plus on my way to the store, etc...) I told Will-O to call about 30 minutes prior to their desired pick-up time and I would be there. We agreed that the time should be about 4pm so we could all eat and do the whole bath, bedtime thing as usual. I didn't hear from him by 4:30pm, so I called a bunch of times, I texted and I got hot under the collar as he didn't answer. I took it upon myself to just drive over to our friend's at 5-ish as I knew the kids would be ready for dinner, etc. Right away I noted W. was pretty drunk. The kids were all having fun and fine, but of course I wondered how many snacks, fluids and toilet times the kiddies had. The party host was dressed up and ready to take his lady out for dinner within seconds of my arrival (i.e. they all should have been out the door at 4.) I was let down (ho hum) and standardly irritated with the way the mostly pleasant day went down.
Happy Valentine's Day to me.

Best Part of the Day-
Dropped the kiddies off to my mom/dad's so I could go to a local resort/spa for a pedicure and massage. I felt a large sense of relief right when we arrived at my parents'. The kids were super psyched to see a smiley G-ma Barbie and she was naturally thrilled to see them (I was stoked to deliver them!) I was right on time for my pedicure and it began with a complimentary glass of champagne and a warm lavendar neck wrap....lovely, lovely. It ended with a neck massage and fancy orange sherbert colored toesies.
Post-spa activities I coerced my long-time friend, T. to meet me at the bar adjacent to the spa and we drank cocktail after cocktail with much laughter....ahhhhh. It was all so necessary and wonderful.
(Thanks Mom!)
Worst Part of the Day-
On our way to my parental home, Scarlet and Little Man L. were physically fighting with each other. The origin of their car seat brawl was inexplicable to me. He was screaching and she would lean over and grab/pinch his arm with intent to harm. This would cycle over and over. At one point I gave out my rock band whistle (it is VERY loud) in the car to get their attention and almost pulled the car to the shoulder of the highway (like it was 1976 and I was my dad angry with screaming kids in the vehicle...)
They were just awful to each other and I am certain neither one knows how or why that started. Friday the 13th???
Geez. Calmez-vous!

Best Part of the Day (Part One) - Wake up to many e-mails for our Realtor - seems that the water is a leak from the HVAC and can be easily fixed. Hooray we can still close.
Worst Part of the Day - Nope not the HVAC. Can't figure out what the leak is from - may have to tear down walls to figure it out. Now the carpet in the basement outside the closet is wet. Can't buy the house without knowing what is going one. Closing postponed. Stress is rising.
Best Part of the Day (Part Two) - Leak is from a sump pump that that never correctly attached in the basement. Once it was attached correctly, the water issue was solved. Contractor cleaned up everything and replaced all exterior baseboards. Also prior owner brought over a de-humidifier and left it for us. Now, oh now, we can close tomorrow (with upgraded home warranty).
Worst Part of the Day (Part Two) - Terrible cramp on my right side. More stress manifesting itself in physical ailments? Or appendicitis? No it's not appendicitis, Erik said it was too low. But hurts nonetheless.

Worst Part of the Day - Gathered up the kiddos at about 5 p.m. to hustle out to the house to do the pre-closing walk through (closing is tomorrow!) The kiddos are crazily running the house (tripping, smashing fingers, molesting the microwave at just their level), but it's all good. Until we notice .... water in the 'basement' closet (I put 'basement' in single quotes as it is a walk out room - really a first level, not underground). Yep - water in the closet and a suspect mold or mildew on the baseboard of that closet. WTF. WTF. WTF. We arrived elated and left so sad. Now have to figure this out and possibly postpone the closing .... oh my, can't take much more.
Best Part of the Day - This is beyond lame, but I cleaned the piles of crap that had been invading the kitchen counters. Even after our terrible walk through, the first thing Erik said when we got home was "WOW this place is CLEAN." Oh because now you can see the counters and not piles of paper, kid projects, mail and the like? Thanks for noticing :-)

Best Part of the Day-
Miss S. had her Winter Open House at school this eve. As we drove downtown the kids ooooed and ahhhhed at the mini sky line and the lights of the city. I could tell the kiddies thought they were pretty cool to be venturing out at night (it was 5:45pm, but very dark). As soon as we were passing Marquette, Scarlet rolled her window down and yelled out, "Rock on, Milwaukee!" She proceeded to scream/sing out the window (very, very loudly) the song "Power to the People". It's a John Lennon song, but she knows the Fugees' cover. She was belting it out Fugee-style and our fellow highway drivers were amused.
Worst Part of the Day-
Liam was a complete terror at the Open House. Mostly 'cause he's 2 and wants to sprint down long hallways, hide under bleachers in an auditorium and jump off gym mats piled high, high up along a gym wall--alas, a school has all of these fun things and more--older kids to laugh at your antics and egg you on!
He also can't quite grasp the concept that "art is for admiring with our eyes, not our hands." This open house was showcasing hundreds of sculptures, dioramas, etc that the students created (that is the entire point of an Open House at an art school...) too bad these amazing creations were all at his eye level. All he wanted to do was crush them with his powerful 2 year-old hands and feet like a monster....ahhhhh.
At one point, a lady walking by called him a "devil child". (What gives you that idea?!) Really, I just had to laugh. As I was wrestling to restrain little man L. in his stroller (he was screaming at the top of his lungs), a man came up to me smiling and said, "I admire your patience." Well, whaddya gonna do? I knew damn well it was a tall order to take both kids solo to this event which coincides with their bedtime....for future dealings: If I am to go in public with both, I need another adult: man-to-man defense.

Worst Part of the Day - Realized (consciously) that we are closing on the house in two days. All of a sudden (at 6 a.m.) I think "we need to get the closing bank check." Then I realize that in all my dealings of our monies, I've never put my name on the account. So I get Erik readied to get the check. I count out all the figures five times - it's all good. We are in PERFECT monetary shape. Aren't I so responsible? Erik calls from the bank "um one of the CD's has not matured and we'll have to pay a fee to take out the money." And when does it mature? In 17 FREAKIN' days. Wow - good fact checking there, Molly. And the mortgage company decided to ask for more documentation today .... WTF, are we not closing in two days? Could they maybe have asked for this WEEKS ago? So Erik is at the bank, the kiddos are in front of the TV and I'm struggling to try and track down pay stubs and credits on our account and ... finally I threw in the towel. THEY can figure this out. My face is now (cliche alert) broken out! I haven't showered in several days and I can FEEL the stress in my throat and chest area .... NO MAS! ALL DONE!!
Best Part of the Day - Got a pedicure while the boyz were in preschool. It is a coincidence or have they always stepped on my feet this much? Lord and Lands - I think they might have already chipped it.

Best Part of the Day-
Snuck out of work to go to the mall to find a lil something for a wedding I have in 2 weeks...(found myself in the teen section as usual...who knew I would be enticed by anything from the BabyPhat line...) Did find 75% off cuteness (not from BabyPhat) and think I am set for the wedding!
Worst Part of the Day-
Note: For the past Will-O has been exemplary for about 2 weeks in ways of attitude--thus waaaay more helpful, thoughtful, engaging with kids, mindful, etc. Before I had a chance to verbalize it (I was going to today!), he came in from his wee AM workout while I was sipping tea reading Newsweek. He started in on a silly comment he had made yesterday about a Tonic album he hearts. I counter commented, he misinterpreted and there was that stupid tension that almost had been quiet for a spell. Then he added, "I'm doing much better and it would be nice for you to notice..." Notice. Who couldn't notice, my friend. You are NIGHT and DAY different. I notice, the kids notice. A newborn would pick up on it. It's fantastic. I was going to bring it up today... blah, blah. (Too bad we still can't converse.) Perhaps I will go back to card/letter writing.

Best Part of the Day-
I tried to just chill the hell out (I heard my old self telling my present self to do so.) I was less rushed and took my sweet time ended up enjoying myself this morn. For heaven's sake, I make my own hours, so why not just take it down ten notches on a Monday morn? Plus, I'm not a wartime refugee, I don't have terminal cancer and I have all of my limbs--my top 3 criteria for non-complaining are intact.
FYI--Will-O has been excellent in handling the wee morning tasks with making Scar breakfast and her beloved hot cocoa, organizing her school stuff and then walking her to the bus--immensely helpful! While dad and daughter were off to school, Liam and I played "cars" and I tickled his soft little chunky chin and I remembered that this little guy can laugh just as much as he can sob (as of late in regards to bedtime...) My little sweet treat.
Worst Part of the Day-
A titch sore in the left calf department as a result of atypically sprinting around a field with a bunch of women last night. (Sounds more avant garde that way.) Gol diggity soccer. Damn getting old.
Also, I still have this nagging feeling that I am forgetting something!!!!!! It is a terribly annoying feeling..................ahhhhh.
Monday February 9, 2009
Best Part of the Day - Remember that Sunday morning that Erik slept in? (It was just yesterday.) Today he redeemed himself. He got home early from work and took the kiddos to the park for a hour and a half ( I watched an episode of Buffy - got to watch the last season!) Then he fed and bathed the kids while I went grocery shopping ... so now when they are in preschool tomorrow, I have a total free four hours. Love it! Gracias Erika!!
Worst Part of the Day - Woken up EARLY again by the boyz (5:40 a.m.) What to do about this???? They are yelling in the EARLY morning and it is sucking.

Worst Part of the Day - Usually my day to snooze in - but my beloved decided to just sleep in himself. I waited for him to say the usual "I'll get up" but that was not forthcoming and I just got up myself. Now ... he did have that work thing yesterday morning (that he CHOSE to go to) and did have a rough weekend last weekend (but again, this means that I had no help either!) Molly tired.
Best Part of the Day - While I went to work out (Pilates class - painful), Erik took the boyz to the park. Then we all went to the UNCC/Dayton basketball game. It was actually pretty fun - Quinn was sooo good . He loved it all - the popcorn, the jumbotron, the soft pretzel, the band music, the cheerleaders ... even got into the game clapping away at either team scoring. Wes - he was ready to go home after about ten minutes (bye bye, all done, go home). But I placated him with snacks and we all made it until half time. Then off to the park (it was 75 today!) And by the time we got home, Erik and I were BEAT.

Best Part of the Day - It's 65 degrees!! I take the boyz to the gym for a kick ass 75 minute yoga class. Then we hit Chick-Fil-A and get some food, head to the park, picnic and then play for two hours. The boyz are my favorite kind of drrrty at the end - red cheeked, thirsty, sandy, and tuckered out. A perfect day!
Worst Part of the Day - The boyz were up early again this morning .... they have decided to wake up and call out (over and over and over) until they wake up the other and us. EXHAUSTING. I dream of waking up on my own instead of being woken up.

Best Part of the Day - Whoa - it's getting warmer. Light coats, bright sun. Erik home early from work and we chill with the little ones.
Also successfully negotiated a lower hourly rate (and guarantee not to exceed price) with the local movers. It felt good as they are an excellent company (A plus on Better Business Bureau and awards on Angie's List) and the other company I liked would not budge on their hourly rate (which would have been $20 more a hour). I think I deserve a present for my good $kills.
Worst Part of the Day - It seems to be getting harder to get out the door. It's always a hectic, mad dash to be somewhere and there is always crying, stalling, shoes missing, water spilling, milk to be filled ... organization is gone, a remote love I yearn for daily.

Best Part of the Day-
Will-O took the kids while he worked out and I had an hour and a half to read the paper and lounge. It was rejuvenating. (It is sad in a give-an-inch-take-a-mile vein, but I really want a full 24 hours of rejuvi...)
Worst Part of the Day-
Had to flake out. I am feeling overwhelmed with fitting it all in. This evening I had a dinner party to attend at 6pm. I knew damn well I would be late (historically I have been very few places in between the hours of 6pm and 8pm. Now 8:45pm--that I can do if I am on my best game, but I'd still be visibly winded...) Anyhoo, I was looking forward to the Mexican-themed meal and the peeps, so I had planned on dinner party fun from 6p-8:15pm, driving to soccer game (ahem, yes me playing) and soccer from 9p-10p. Whew.) Well, at 6:30-ish pm Liam was a hot sobbing mess and there was a bit of tension and much screeching and it seemed no one was going to sleep any time soon. Though I was showered, I was no where near ready to see people in a social setting. My hair was in white girl dreds and my vibe was tense and harried. I had to text my buddy at 7 saying, "my child is insane, will miss the gathering..." Wah.

Best Part of the Day-
Effectively fitting in the work, work-out, drinks with the ladies. More successful with time-management, I suppose...
Also, it was nearly 50 degrees today. We had the kids outside ALL day. Yes. A blast was had.
Worst Part of the Day-
I thought for certain I would have some of that scrumptious alone time that I love to dream about. It's the weekend, right?! Did not happen.
The only downside of having the kids outside in a balmy February day in Wisconsin=oodles of muddy, wet, soiled clothes. Each kid went through 2 pair of boots, numerous socks, hats and mittens galore, 3 jackets and at least 3 full outfits over 7 hours of serious outside play. Everything was sopping wet and soaked with mud. By looking at our back hall one may figure that this house belongs to a team of raucous rugby players. I feel like I am in an over-the-top commercial for Tide laundry detergent.

Best Part of the Day-
The quiet/calm after the chilluns were in bed. FNL!! Beer. Downtime. Thanks, Babe! (Dillon, TX style.)
Worst Part of the Day-
The same old rushing around aspect that I detest. I had to take a girl at work to the Urgent Care. Folks, it was apparent that this child had strep throat. I was the only staff available to do this, BUT I of course I have to pick-up Miss S. from school at a specific time. I had to rush, rush, out of the Urgent Care, fax the script for antibiotics (yes, positive for strep) and then peel out of there to be 1 minute late for Miss S.'s arrival. No lunch, no hydration, little peace. My Buddhist friends would probably say I am not living in the moment....the moment slips away to quickly for me to do any proper livin...

Worst Part of the Day - Quinn has stopped his napping and I've stopped trying to make him. The last hour and a half today were full of WHINING. It was soooo grating my nerves.
Best Part of the Day - Got a spur of the moment haircut today. I saw the place I had been to before, stopped in and had an immediate appointment with Kuki (pronounced Cookie). I do love the spur of the moment appointments that fit in perfectly (no rushing to get there as nothing is set). And my head feels sooo much lighter - I had not had a haircut since the end of October.
Awkward Moment - As Kuki cut my hair we were talking about how she used to live in Raleigh, NC. She then said "oh yes, many of my clients were colored, so they really had texture in their hair." Now Kuki is of Hispanic descent (I would guess) so maybe the term would be for all people of color? But I did have to check my calendar to make sure it really was 2009 ....

Best Part of the Day-
Finally made to Body Pump class (golly that name bugs me...) Today's instructor kicked my little baboon heart's a**. My heart is still racing. The lunges! Who would guess that lunges with weights would be so cardio???? (I would think a complete wuss bag was writing this...)
Worst Part of the Day-
Simply not enough hydration throughout the day. The New Year's Resolution Committee would not be pleased.
Wise Scarlet Quote:
We went to Cuz K.'s for a very fun Pizza Party with the kiddos. Her neighbor (who looks like a blonde Kate Beckinsale--so dang cute) and son, Finn (he's pretty cute, too), were there as well. I was chancing the whole outing as it was a school night, and I knew darn well that we would be up past our dorky 7pm. ( i.e. emotions could easily get out of control for Miss S. due to tiredness...) Finn was being a regular 5 1/2 year-old boy and was rough housing a bit with Scarlet. I was watching and really it was more like playful, mildly flirtatious physicality of a grade school boy who has a crush on a girl. Little Miss S. and her concrete-operations mind was not able to pick up on the nuance that rough housing was o.k. and in fact, was Finn's way of showing affection. Scarl was getting pretty bent out of shape about it and saying, "Finn pushed me!" (I was watching and knew she was misinterpreting. In her defense, Scarlet is accustomed to she and her girl buds jumping in a circle while hugging, squealing with delight and unabashedly telling each other how much they love each other--over and over and over and over...)
Anyhoo, in the car on the way home I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to have a talk with Scarlet (the first of many mom-daughter talks, I hope) about the difference between how Finn was acting and actual hitting or pushing that is inappropriate. I gave my succinct explanation and I could tell Miss S. was very intrigued. I ended with "...that was Finn's way of showing he likes you as a person. Do you have any questions?" Scarlet said she had questions, but was quiet for a few minutes. Then she asked quietly but with a smile, "Is this a joke? Why would anyone hit or push to show they like you? Why wouldn't they just tell you?" After a few more moments she added, "Boys are very confusing to me. Confusing, indeed." Indeed.

Best Part of the Day-
Highly productive in the work force. Short story: Possibly made some head way with a non-bright (seriously, the dullest tool in the shed) pregnant teen at work. My lunch hour was kicked off (just when I am finally about to sit down and eat!) with this girl faking a seizure. She was literally crossing her eyes and foaming at the mouth--FYI-true, one may foam at the mouth and one's eyes may roll back in one's head while seizing, but they do NOT cross. She was carrying on and sobbing and would not respond to the question, "What is wrong?" Just more sobbing and rocking. Annoying mostly as I was excited to eat. After me being seriously nonplussed with these antics and after many minutes (that must be tiring for a preg to fake convulse like that) she admitted she was "overwhelmed" with the pregnancy and conflicted with her choice to keep the baby as well as the thousands of other crazy feelings even a normal 30-something mom has: Will the baby be o.k.? Am I doing everything right? Could the baby have a birth defect? Is this baby alive?, etc. We talked and talked and I tried to validate her fears and concerns and gave her some pregnancy books/literature. We went online and I printed out her own pregnancy calendar according to due date. We went through why it is important to know one's last menstrual period and how many weeks pregnant she is at all times. We discussed that each pregnancy is different and she should not compare and contrast hers, etc. I told her to write any questions down for me or her OB/GYN and to ASK them at the appointments. Whew. It was a lot, it was remedial, but it was necessary. Hopefully some of it stuck. This poor girl. The poor babes.
Worst Part of the Day-
Non-productive in the work out zone.

Worst Part of the Day - Let me begin by saying that there was indeed a dusting of snow on the ground. Maybe ... a half inch to an inch. The roads were mostly dry (some ice patches that were very evident - but I only encountered one such patch in all my driving which was extensive). In Michigan, Wisconsin, New Hampshire - this would be a very, very average day in winter. It didn't even snow in the morning. I arrive at the gym (23 minutes away) at 9:22 a.m. with two kiddos in tow (we are 8 minutes early so I can settle them in childcare and still get a space in the class) and am told "childcare is delayed today. It will open at 10:30 a.m." I about lose it - "why" I ask. "The weather," I'm told. I look outside - "what weather?" I ask. "Ma'am," the desk dude says, clearly sensing my annoyance and deciding he's annoyed with me. "We've already had to file one ice injury report today." Listen bud - it's not my fault that you didn't salt down your sidewalks at 6 a.m. It is now just about 9:30 a.m., super sunny, blue sky, and a literal DUSTING of snow. Then he tells me that many employees have called in today. Seriously? What a joke. "Can't you take the kids to McDonald's?" a helpful worker watching the scene asks. "Um no," I say. In the parking lot I see two moms getting kiddos out of their cars (who I tell about no childcare) and then one more mom getting a kid out as I'm leaving. SUCKY!
Later in the afternoon I again rush to get the kiddos back in the car and in for Quinn's speech appointment. Um - did you know that in NC they cancel school for 1/2 inch of snow? Someone wrote in the newspaper that if we had New England or the Midwest's weather that all our kiddos would be home schooled. So another wasted trip as when school is canceled - so is Quinn's speech. SIGH.
Best Part of the Day - Wes in excellent two year old spirits as of late. He is still fire-y with his red-headed temper - but he is also a hilarious prankster, super sweet and fun, fun, fun. Not to mention an excellent listener (and follows directions well) and picks up! Love it!

Worst Part of the Day - An ongoing fight with the post office got resolved today. (NOTE - don't do anything ahead of time, you just get screwed.) I put the forward date for our mail for Feb. 18 - but the mail person didn't look at the date and just went ahead and forwarded our mail. I note last week that Thursday and Friday we don't get any mail. So last Friday I call and am told to call back on Saturday morning when the mail carrier is in. So I call and there is a sub, but I speak with her and all is well (mail is delivered). Then on Monday - no mail again. So I call and Paris (my new BFF at the local USPS) is now feeling very sorry (after she does verify that indeed it is the post-persona's mistake and not mine. WHEW - we all know it could well have been me.) I call on Tuesday morning (Ms. Proactive - we are missing a freakin' Netflix) and am assured that all is well. And yes - mail was delivered (including the missing Netflix!)
Best Part of the Day - Had a little time to do some writing and it felt good. Must continue to carve out time. Could relinquish at least part of my reality show addiction .... we'll see.

Best Part of the Day-
AM-Eating delectable egg and cheese on sesame bagel at Bruegger's this late morn. And sipping their divine French toast coffee while scanning The Onion. (Alone!)
PM-Watching M.U. play DePaul. Go, team, go!
Worst Part of the Day-
Sitting down to sift, organize and then pay bills this late eve. Boo. Where is my secretary???

Best Part of the Day-
Joining Scarlet on her class field trip. She was exemplary in ways of behavior and leadership (not falling prey to "naughty" classmates.) I, too, received a thank you note from her teacher for assisting the class. I got a star! It is fun how much I enjoy concrete rewards.
Also--sold the fridge and stove that had been taking up space in the garge. Now it is back to a 2-car. Minimizing the madness...
Worst Part of the Day-
Feeling rushed. Rushing here, rushing there. Enough. My day consisted of : volunteering with S.'s class for a field trip to Central Library (gorgeous building) downtown. Then on to work for a half day, rushed home to deal with Craig's List buyer (sold previous fridge and stove), collect Miss S. from bus, back out to volunteer for PTA in early eve, rushed to mid-eve Body Pump class (missed it--wayyyyy too packed), back home for February calendar dealings with Will-O at 10pm. Where are my 5 minutes of sitting quietly in order to hear my instructions from the universe? Also feeling guilty leaving Sir L. Each time I was in/out of the home today, he would stare at me in disbelief with a constantly furrowed brow...you leaving me again, MomLady?

Best Part of the Day-
Traveled to Chicago with TG (aka Gunnar, Gunny Guns, Gums) to attend Super Bowl/B-day bash for TimmE. Soooooo much gol diggity fun. I have not laughed that hard (tears streaming down my cheeks due to def comedy jam-style laughter for at least 1 hour of the 6 hour outing. Love you, A-Lo.) Many drinks and eats, etc. with good friends/family. Yippeeee. Plus, won $20.00 in the mindless SB pool...double plus, didn't have to drive...slept on the way home!!! Perfect.
Worst Part of the Day-
Had to (just had to) go to work in the morn prior to Chicago trip. (A mite tired after the night with Ms. L.) Starving, starving (felt shaky and woozy) at 2 pm and had to (just had to) go to Jimmy John's Sandwich Shoppe and scarf down the goodness.

Summary: Feeling positive about the start of this fine Feb. month. (I indeed have a soft spot for Februarys in general and this one could be a goodun...)

Worst Part of the Day - Going through a day feeling like you are being constantly sucker punched is, dare I say, sucky. Hard to catch my breath at times regarding the fact we might not close on the house and might not stay in Charlotte. I felt like the day fuzzed in and out with a huge pit in my stomach. I almost googled "housing contract penalties" but then decided "if it comes to THAT, Mr. Erik is going to have to make the call." But I really must say that NO ONE should live with misery be it in a relationship, job, city ... whatever. So I have to be open to change in a major area (as I know he would change it up for me).
Best Part of the Day - Seems Erik just had a "bad weekend" (and in his defense it was a really, really bad weekend) and a bad, bad moment in time when defense and censors were down. We are going to close on the house and stay in Charlotte. We did talk it over and I wanted to make sure he was really, truly okay with it all (it can all still be undone as of now after all). My mind is still reacting to this news - but relief, clear and bright, invades my brain. Sigh. Peace. Maybe we really can get settled.
Preschool Comment - Quinn commented today that my shirt was pink. And then we were naming the colors of my other clothing choices. Then I said "and what color is mama's hair?" And he took his hand and gently placed it on my hair and said "grey!" Um ... that's platinum to you, kiddo. And maybe it is time for a colour.

Best Part of the Day-
Meeting a friend out for cocktails and chatting in swanky, dimly lit watering hole. F-U-N as always. I was super duper sleepy prior to meeting her out and even thought of cancelling...but couldn't bear to be that lame. We have some serious good times together and tonight was no exception.
Worst Part of the Day-
I went to drop Scarlet off at an afternoon b-day party at Stonefire Pizza (think Chuck E. Cheese on 'roids...) Since the kiddos in S.'s class are all turning 5, it is pretty much a known fact that parents can simply drop off and pick up kids from these 2.5 hour parties (unless the child feels more comfortable with the parent present--mine does not care!) I was planning on shooting to work and getting a yummy caffeinated beverage in the 2 hour time slot. I thought I would come back for present opening and then final salutations for the b-day family and then get ready for my adult outing later in the eve. Stop the presses. The mom o' b-day girl felt better if parents stayed as Stonefire P. was crazily packed and loud (and migraine-inducing) and seemed highly chaotic...(yes it was all those things...) I sooooo did not want to stay. I wanted to do my Saturday afteroon things--I wanted to not be in the party zone. Alas, we do things for the kids.
We left the madness after 6pm--3 hours after arriving. Arrrggghhh.

Sunday Febuary 1, 2009
Worst Part of the Day - we might not stay in Charlotte. I had to write that small because I'm still hoping. Oh yes, Erik has a verbal agreement with his job, Oh yes, we have a contract on a house and Oh yes, I might go crazy if I have to pick up and move .... AGAIN. He just had a moment during his 22nd of 34 calls this weekend that he should have gone with his gut and never said yes to the position. I'm kind of in shock, but weeping nonetheless. I truly don't know if it
a. it's just heat of the moment talk
b. he just really, really does have commitment issues and buyer's remorse or
c. he just got talked into a bad situation because his brother lives here and I like the city so much.
Only time will tell - in the meantime .... I sit stunned and devastated. And weirdly I feel bad for HIM (this might just be a coping mechanism so I don't start throwing knives).
Best Part of the Day - Took the kiddos to the park in the 56 degree sunshine. Lovely, lovely. They ran and played and did some swinging and dug in the sand and had a wonderful time. What a delish Feb day o' fine weather!

Worst Part of the Day - Dark cloud over the household due to Erik's pager in constant motion - he was gone for most of the day and then the night .... he is in a bad, bad place. Never seen him this angry before.
Best Part of the Day - LAME - but the new launch of Group Power Winter '09 began today. Met Ann there (she brought the kiddos so they all played in childcare). It was sign in sheet only and pretty intense (until about half the people who signed up didn't show up, so all the alternates got in anyway!) Kind of hilarious. Fun to change it up a tich though.
