Best Part of the Day-
So Scarl's school had their annual day when parents serve a traditional Thanksgiving feast to the kids. And when I am serving Thanksgiving feast, I do what any upstanding Puritan would do--I don my Pilgrim costume with pride and start selflessly serving up lotsa carbs. Scarlet was beaming when she saw me amongst the "normal" parents in the "normal" clothes. I knew I would score a spot in the weekly newsletter, but I did not expect that the younger set (4-7 year-olds) would be so wowed by me. I kinda felt like Cinderella at Disney. Kids were wide-eyed and quiet with admiration: "Are you a real Pilgrim?" One teacher had me give a 3 minute tutorial on Plymouth Rock and my Native American friends. (Maybe the teacher thought I was a real Pilgrim...)
Truly I was glad that I was at soley job #1 today so I could sneak away midday.
Weirdest Part of the Day-
I dorkily and somewhat forgetfully kept the Pilgrim suit on for the entire day post-lunch (I was rockin the bonnet...) I went out to lunch with some co-workers in it and kept getting smiles and smirks from all. Too funny.
Worst Part of the Day-
So now my kids are going to Madison for Christmas Eve (which is fine, but I am on call so cannot travel that far so I will not be with them) and then they will go to my parents' Christmas Eve gathering in the eve. Alas--I just hope they are not hot messes from the mini-travel and double party action. Remember, I like to plan for success, not failure...Ho hum.
