Sunday January 31, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Amazing. The boyz played together for three plus hours this morning. It's not as if there were not fights - but mostly just harmonious playing. Wes is really into Quinn lately (it used to be reversed) "what is Quinn wearing? Then I want to wear that." "What is Quinn eating? Then I want to eat that." Funny.

Worst Part of the Day - If you saw a 4 year old at an indoor playground wearing a hat with a rooster on it with the word 'Cock' below it would you feel
a. horrified
b. mildly upset
c. smug (as in my child would never wear that)
d. amused

Yes Quinn insisted on this damn hat (it's Erik's and I have NO idea where he got it. But Quinn just loves that rooster). And he likes to wear it around and I was horrified but kind of amused. And now I'm going to hide it.

Saturday January 30, 2010

Worst Part of the Day - The snow turned to ice over the night ... could not really leave the house (it's not as if the weather or roads were so bad, it's just that they don't have the ways and means to clear it quickly and efficiently down here). It's weird to stay in your pj's all day when you are not in college (and/or hungover). Neither of which, I happen to be.

Best Part of the Day - Wes is a snow lova' (that NH born lad). He happily got in a 2T snowsuit (way too small) and sledded with dad. Then later went for a walk with dad and the dog (the dog only lasted for about 20 minutes. I really think the cold is not his thing.) Erik is happy, happy, joy, joy and life looks sunny (although for me it always looks at least partly sunny.) I did not leave the house - it's hard to do when you don't get out of your pj's.

Friday January 29, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Let is Snow. Let it Snow. Let it Snow. The snow began falling around 4 p.m. today. It is a really magical thing. The boyz were fired up. Too bad I don't really have any snow clothes that fit - we had to improvise. Does snow really taste like frosting? Wishful thinking, Mr. Quinn. And no, Wes, we can't make a snowman when the snow first starts falling.

Plus - Houston we might have a solution regarding Erik's deal.

Worst Part of the Day - Had the boyz gone from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Then put them both in their rooms for Quiet Time. Erik still had time to yell at them for the ten minutes from 1:30 to 1:35 .... hmmmm.

Thursday January 28, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Met Ann for her birthday lunch. We had a pleasant meal and chat. Isn't it fun to talk to someone married to your husband's brother? Highly enjoyable. Makes having two kiddos totally worthwhile.

Worst Part of the Day - A health-type issue that has been hanging over Erik came to a head this morning. Bad, bad feelings abound. I will say this - he willingly talks about every and all feeling(s). I keep telling myself that this is helpful even when I wish he would repress it. It is an admirable quality. Especially in a male. (This is what I am telling myself, but mostly I do think it's true.)

Acorn. Tree. I am my mother's child in the following action. I entered Old Navy with a 25% off coupon that began this day. I handed over my bag o' clothes bought two days prior. They cheerfully returned them and then rerang them for a $10 savings. Frugal? Indeed. Compensating? Hell yes, as I will now spend that $10 five times over.

Saturday January 30, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Worked out and then took the kiddies swimming with Will-O. The kids HIGHLY enjoyed. It felt good to my bad self moving again.

Worst Part of the Day-
I technically had the night free to go out with friends. I was beat by 7pm and snuggled up with my book. (Dare I say more fun than friends?? Tee-hee.)

Liam Quote: For some reason Liam is constantly opening the fridge and looking in it. Today he was doing his standard looking and I was about to tell my standard reply of "please shut the fridge." He pointed in the back to a 6 pack of my beloved Miller 64 that lasts me about 2 weeks. He asked, "Do you want a beer, Mom? Oh that's right, beer is for night time and it's still day. Maybe in a few hours, Mom." As if I'm counting the minutes, my sweet. 2 more hours 8 minutes and then I am allowed my Mama beverage...

Friday January 29, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Took the kiddos to a 4pm showing of the Tooth Fairy movie. I thought it was really well done. I also like that this theater can accommodate a full dinner for all and a light beer por moi. All sorts of fun and still all in bed by 7pm. Yes.

Worst Part of the Day-
Liam was a tantrummy pill on the way home from the movie. (It was actually pretty funny how crazy and demanding he was...), BUT it was annoying as we had just come from another kid-centric event of fun and my little man just couldn't put it all in perspective. When does that age of reason hit??

Thursday January 28, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Completed a CPR course in the morn, worked it, collected kiddies and then took Scarlet solo to meet Cuz K and kiddies for pizza. Yummmy and hard to beat Zaffiro's.

Worst Part of the Day-
Perhaps I shouldn't have taken Scarlet out on a school night...she was a tad crabby in the restaurant and then fell fast asleep on the way home at 6:45pm.

Wednesday January 27, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
I picked Liam up from preschool and he was overjoyed to see me. He literally knocked me over with his run and jump into my arms. Today he started his transition from the 2-3 room to the 3-4 room and he was pleased as punch to be hanging with the older set.

Worst Part of the Day-
Me=looking a bit on the haggard, puffy-eyed side.

Tuesday January 26, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Snuggling in bed and reading with kiddies after 10 hr day of workin it.

Worst Part of the Day-
Scarlet had a "sideways thumbs" day at school (between "thumbs up" and "thumbs down"). Later she told me tearfully that she had a bad day. Awww, ma sweetie...

Wednesday January 27, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Workout and then hang out with my pal Janelle. Another friend Danielle was supposed to join, but her daughter fell ill at school :( Don't worry - we do it just about every week :)

Worst Part of the Day - Tried to make a healthy (pureed vegetables hidden inside) family meal. Quinn threw a fit and would not eat and could not be reasoned with and went to bed hungry. Wes ate it all with gusto (OH MAMA THIS IS GOOD! OH I WANT MORE. OH I LOVE THIS.) Ironic thing is - I could just serve Wes a meal with a side of veggies and he'd eat it all. No need for 'hidden' vegetables. It's Quinn who won't touch them. So I could have saved myself a lot o' trouble by just cooking a meal with a side o' veggies.

-- Watched Paranormal Activity tonight (again thanks to Red Box, not Netflix). I'd give it an Okay to Good. Not really scary, but creepy. When our door slammed shut after we went to bed (due to the heat coming on) I about jumped out of my skin.

Tuesday January 26, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Got my haircut for the first time since September. Really now. My hair needs a trim about every four weeks (I try to do it every six to seven weeks). So it was like an 80's theme hairstyle about every day.

Worst Part of the Day - Just felt like a rush, rush, rush from the time I got up until the time I went to bed. Plus more paperwork for Erik's job that sent everyone (except me) into a tailspin. Then they found it (of course they did as I sent it on Saturday) and all was well again ... except for the lingering feeling that something else is going to be misplaced.

-- Watched The Hurt Locker tonight (from Red Box, no thanks to Netflix). I can't say it wasn't a good movie and I did appreciate it - but just not in the mood for something so dark and violent.

Monday January 25, 2010

Worst Part of the Day - No preschool - second Monday in a row. Query - balloons: more trouble than fun? Discuss. Balloons in a house with high ass ceilings? Bye Bye to two balloons until manana.

Best Part of the Day - Double workout (mostly to rid myself o' childrens for two hours) and then an 'adventure' to Trader Joe's. It really is an adventure for the little ones - treasure maps throughout the store, cereal (eaten in the store), balloons .... it's also an 'adventure' of sorts for me as I wonder if we can make through without a meltdown from any of the attending parties (including me).

Happy Birthday Ann! If not for you - I might be insane (I mean that as the highest compliment!) I'm glad we're family.

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Monday January 25, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Picked up new Book Club book, Hanna's Daughters, and read and read despite my heavy eyelids.

Worst Part of the Day-
Alright, Mondays are my long days, but My-lanta!! Today I was up and out by 4:30am and then also had doc rounds til 9:15pm. I got home SUPER tired, crabby and was too harsh on Will-O's job with kiddies. (True, he did not have Scarlet finish her homework as was asked, they didn't pack lunch as was on the list and he didn't supervise toy pick up--or do it himself--so there was kid crap everywhere, BUT it was still unfair for me to lash out when I already know he can't do those things...) Holy tiredness, Batman.

Sunday January 24, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Beers and brunching in da morn at other fave hipster joint. How I love you so! A fun, impromptu time before kiddie reunion.

Worst Part of the Day-
Lotsa laundry, no detergent. (equals one less chore...)

Saturday January 23, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Delivered the kiddies to my mom (who demanded she have them, that gem!). I cleaned, read and then met girlies for wine and apps at local, hipster joint. Deeee-lightful. (A bit o' laughs and vulgarity, per the usual.)

Worst Part of the Day-
Will-O tension. (per the usual.)

Friday January 22, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Started the movie, Food Inc. Highly enjoyed the first half, then fell fast asleep.

Worst Part of the Day-
Left the house at 4:30am for a 5am orientation at the hospital. At first it was kinda novel being up so early (like getting ready for a road trip), but I knew I wasn't going on any road trip so that was short lived. Plus the bitter, pitch black freezing cold air whipping my face did not help.

Monday, January 25, 2010

Sunday January 24, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Slept in until almost 10 a.m. this morning. Taught Centergy today and there were 30 (!) people in the class. I have to say it was awesome energy and gave me a total boost. Headed over to Chris and Ann's to watch the Colts game - both Indiana boys (Chris and Erik) very pleased (in a low key, Germanic type way) with the outcome. Home by 7:15 p.m. and Erik and I got to hang out.

Worst Part of the Day - Wes refused his nap again today (and didn't even fall asleep on his way to Chris and Ann's). Cousins did well - but had to break up some tussling. Kiddos both fell asleep on the way home. We decided to put them both straight to bed. Wes threw a fit "I WANT TO WATCH TV. I WANT TO WATCH TV." He worked himself into a frenzy (play Exorcist music here). He pissed himself in the bathroom while pointing at it and screaming - his hair sticking up, his face red. I would NOT have been surprised to see his head do a 180 at this point. (Again insert Exorcist music here.) Then (after being told not to move), Quinn walked through the pee and slipped on his arse. At this point Erik and I looked at each other and just started laughing. It was soooo crazy. Got them cleaned up. Calmed Wes down with soft voices and blankies. What the .... does anyone have the Exorcism number at the Vatican?

Saturday January 23, 2010

Worst Part of the Day - There were 38 people in kickboxing today ... I about kicked (or was kicked) many, many times. Made it hard to do my usually hardcore roundhouse (that's a joke. My roundhouse is rather weak.) Also could NOT get that Wes down for a nap (and he was up at 5:30 a.m. today - ugh). Then I spent the afternoon running around - learning Centergy tracks, doing laundry, cleaning .... booooo.

Best Part of the Day - Popped over to Chris and Ann's for our usual. I think Chris and Ann would like to go out to eat (instead of always ordering in), but Erik and I are anti. And I truly do think Wes would rile up the crowd and it wouldn't be great for anyone. So in we stayed for sushi takeout.

Friday January 22, 2010

Worst Part of the Day - A rainy, gloomy day outside. So Erik and I decided to take the kiddos to a movie. It worked out so well the first time (rule of parenting #34 - just because it was awesome one time (i.e. they ate fish sticks with glee) doesn't mean it will happen again). We went to see Planet 51 and lasted about one hour. Left the theater with Erik muttering "I'll take them again when they're in high school." Well at least it was only $8 total - hooray for the cheap movies!

Best Part of the Day -
Starting to think of my little area as my 'village' - I know people at the grocery store, bank, gym .... like a mini GR.

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Thursday January 21, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Reading and almost done with the book, National Velvet. What a writing achievement of a female author in the 1930's. It starts off a tad confusing (to me who has not yet seen the movie--and did not know the backstory), but is wrapping up ingeniously.

Worst Part of the Day-
Lotsa working, lostsa kid fun, little reading=not alotta work out time.

Wednesday January 20, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
I am doing really well in my orientation/certification class. I just seem to be getting it quickly. (To think of what I could have accomplished in college if I actually paid attention??? Or went to class???)

Worst Part of the Day-
Haiti. omg--what can be done?? Just signed up to be an RN volunteer on the Partners In Health website. I really don't know how I could swing it with my plate quite full, but also don't know how I could not...

Tuesday January 19, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Had a chance to chat with a few freinds/fam while driving from one job to next. Sooo nice to touch base and hear of the happenings 'round me.

Worst Part of the Day-
Suuuuper hungry. I forget when I begin working like normal (maybe not quite normal...) I slightly wither away in typical Cahill fashion. Not enough time for my necessary snacks.

Happy Birthday shout out to Cousin Pate!!!! Love you and inspired by you!!!

Friday, January 22, 2010

Thursday January 21, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Erik and I did an errand together - taking back this present to the Frontgate store at the hoity toity South Park mall (didn't even know until recently that Frontgate - home of the $150 throw pillow - had stores). Normally I'm not a fan of erranding with others - but this was pretty dern nice. We gazed at the $900 Frontgate items (what do you give the person who has everything and you have 1 billion dollars.) We Starbucked. We looked at new phones at Verizon (I think we're going to go with the Blackberry Storm pour duex).
Also mandatory quiet time still workin' like a charm.

Worst Part of the Day - After yesterdays delicious weather (65 and sunny!), today is cold, rainy and gloomy.

Wednesday January 20, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Celebrated (finally!) Wes' birthday. Brought cupcakes into his class, had a birthday dinner (veggie corndogs - but since that usually lunch fare, I guess it's special to him), and opened presents. Wes was an excellent sharer (although Quinn kept saying "where is MY present?" "Where are the candles on my cupcake?"). Also the two kiddos actually played (gasp!) with the presents right away (instead of demanding more ala Christmas). Nice.
Fine weather continues - 65 and sun, sun, sunny! Ahhh - so nice to not wear socks inside.
Worst Part of the Day - Stomach still not 100%. Just feeling off.

Tuesday January 19, 2010

Happy Birthday to Cousin Pate'! What are you like 40 now? Fabu Auntie and friend.

Best Part of the Day -
Kiddos back in preschool land. I got a ton of dumb stuff done: grocery shopping, cupcake making, present wrapping. Then had an afternoon outside in the gorgeous weather - chalk drawing, washing the car, hitting baseballs ... love it.
Packed up the kiddos in their pj's to pick up Erik at the airport. Smooth sailing - got him and home in around 30 minutes.

Worst Part of the Day - Feeling ill - am I getting the stomach bug? Trying to will it away. Had to cancel teaching Centergy tonight as I just felt too yucky.

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Monday January 18, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Feeling spookily fantastic after this 11.5 hour work day. (The kids sooo sunggly and a missin.)
Ooodles of help to have Will-O simply pick up and/or deliver kiddies whilst I focus on the work force...

Worst Part of the Day-
The home is in slight disarray.

Happy Dr. MLK Day. I am glad this is a celebrated day.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Monday January 18, 2010

Happy Martin Luther King Day! Tolerance HOORAY!

Best Part of the Day - Got through teaching a Centergy class and then a Group Power. Then off to McDonald's for lunch for the boyz.

Worst Part of the Day -Started to not feel so good. Stomach hurting. Trying to overcome it via sheer willpower.

Sunday January 17, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Pleased with not being pregnant for three years now. Also my friend Melissa picked up the kiddos this morning at 9:30 a.m. to take them to her church, so I could teach a Centergy class (no childcare on Sundays). She dropped them back off at 12:20 p.m. with a "no big deal." What a pal :)
Also against my better judgment, the boyz and I went to National Marquette Day. Chris and Ann talked me into it. But it was fine - actually better than fine, it was fun. The four cousins amused themselves the entire time with a video game (no quarters actually put into this game), beads, MU pom pons, and food. What a fine way to spend the end of a Sunday - in a bar! And Miller Lite? Tastes like water. I have not had one in years. Quinn did drop his pants in the middle of the bar twice - I think it was in honor of Marquette and college in general. Seemed very appropriate (and we did make it to the bathroom both times which is pleasing to me).

Worst Part of the Day - A rushed morning - getting Erik to the airport, back home, getting kiddos ready to go with Melissa, off to teach (and I kind of messed up on track which is annoying!) and then home. Whew. Day of Rest? Nope.

Happy Birthday Wes. Three IS a magic number.
Here are some things I enjoy about Wes -
1. Sense of humor
2. Extraordinary observation skills (reminds me of G-Ma and Gigi)
3. Hair the color of honey, eyes the color of sky just after the sun goes down
4. Snuggler
5. Gast Bugger Gene
6. Will try any type of food
7. Mad dance skillz (and not afraid to show them)
8. His made up phrases (Frosting Milk for vanilla soy milk. Crocagator for either alligator or crocodile).
9. His need to match and look cute (this one might just be from me - but he has taken it up like gangbusters.)
10. His amazing coordination with a bat, spoon, computer, ball ... whatever.

Love you Wesson!

Also cool people born on this day - Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel, Michelle Obama, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Muhammad Ali, James Earl Jones, Eartha Kitt, Vidal Sassoon, Betty White.

Saturday January 16, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Chris, Ann and the kiddos came over. Chitlins in the basement jumping on the couch and having a blast. Adults upstairs, eating takeout and chit chatting.

Worst Part of the Day - Erik's got the stomach bug. Throwing up and generally feeling lousy. Tis a shame he has to fly out tomorrow ... isn't it always the way? No take out for him.

Hardcore! Yes, friends, I am hardcore. Sista Sarah will be jealous of my three-fer. Group Power, Kickboxing and then Centergy. Poor kiddos in childcare at the gym for three plus hours (!) - but they seemed unfazed when I picked them up. I probably won't be able to walk tomorrow.

Friday January 15, 2009

Best Part of the Day - For the third Friday in a row, we've made it to Discovery Place with the babes. Or as Quinn calls it "the place with the Up and Down Chair." See they have this chair and there is some sort of scientific principle behind it, but mostly it's cool because you go up and down. Maybe next time I should try and learn something instead of just using the Up and Down Chair.

Worst Part of the Day - Watching Pineapple Express. Really? That movie got that much buzz? Stooopid. Only funny part is at the end in the diner which had me laughing out loud. But the other 112 minutes ... so not worth it!

Really? We've lost Froggie Softie again. Come on people now. Also lost my keys for a good 10 minute spell at the library. Mysteriously they were returned to the front desk - where did I leave them?? I searched that place high and low.

Monday, January 18, 2010

Sunday January 17, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Lounged and napped as Will-O took the kiddies somewhere/anywhere to watch football with him. It really rocked and I feel back to norm. No more vertigo=yippee!

Worst Part of the Day-
I am still quite behind on a few things---please be patient, friends.

Happy 3rd B-day, Sir Wes!!! Wowie zowie. (How are you feelin, Mama??)

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Saturday January 16, 2010

Worst Part of the Day-
Little ol me feeling like hell. Much vertigo anytime head is lifted off pillow and low-grade nausea all day.

Best Parts of the Day-
1. Scarlet back to normal. She awoke with a declaration, "I feel fantastic!"
2. I was able to lounge about most of the day, thanks to Baby Daddy being in town. Finished 500 Days of Summer and really liked.
3. I was able to shower after the kiddies were down and snuck off to Pickle Off with Cuz S. It was nice to mingle and pretend I didn't feel yucky for a few hours.

Friday January 15, 2010

Best Parts of the Day-
Put sicky Scarl down for the night at 5pm and had Liam all snuggled up and snoozin by 7. Started watching 500 Days of Summer and enjoyed til I fell asleep super duper early.
(Will-O held down the fort as I tended to 2 jobs today. Nice to not have to call in "sick" for the chilluns...)

Worst Parts of the Day-
Scarlet awoke at 1am vomiting and there the yuckiness began. She was down and out and pale and lethargic all day with pukies here and there. There was the standard mountain of soiled blankets, jammies and bed linens and when I got home and then I started to feel woozy and nauseous and had to cancel my book club appearance. Arrgghh.

Friday, January 15, 2010

Thursday January 14, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Took Little Man L. to his 3 year-old Well Child Check this morn and he is as healthy as a horse. He, like, Scarlet, demanded with glee, "I want my shot!" and then did not make a peep or move during the Hib shot or the mandatory blood draw---man, I've got some laid back kids in regards to needles (and the medical world...) He is a joy to hang with (one-on-one.)

Worst Part of the Day-
Well...the divorce was final today. It was a pensive and sad week leading up to this. It was a nerve wracking day waiting in the court for 2 hours (I almost threw up) and a completely surreal experience on the witness stand (what?? who knew...) In the end, though, the draining/yicky court experience left me feeling lighter, far less tense and feeling like it was the right course of action. No super high or super low--it just was. (Perhaps I should be more dramatic...)
Alas.
Exhale.
Really weird.

(Thanks tons, friends/fam for the gracious and kind words and thoughts of support for both Will-O and myself!!!)

Thursday, January 14, 2010

Thursday January 14, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Pajama day at preschool. Hilarious to see all the sweets in their pj's. Instituted quiet time again and it worked like a charm. This time we let them run around for about 20 minutes after school, then snack, and then to their rooms. I then snuck in my own 'quiet time' and napped for 45 delicious minutes.

Worst Part of the Day - Practiced Centergy over and over and over ... and when I practice taught today, I did fine but not as well as I wished too. And I have much more to learn.

Wednesday January 13, 2010

Worst Part of the Day - Seems the sickness Quinn and Wes got it going round the school. Man, I hope we didn't start it!

Best Part of the Day - Workout and then out with my amiga Janelle. She had me laughing so hard I couldn't speak. Also Erik (who is emerging as the FAR superior parent) instituted 'quiet time'. After the kiddos get home from school, they have a snack and then up to their rooms for 'quiet time' - you don't have to nap, just be in your room. (Yes, I have tried this before, but clearly was not trying hard enough.) Wes feel asleep after about 10 minutes (!) and Quinn came down 20 minutes later and then quietly played by his bad self.

Tuesday January 12, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Snag averted in E's new job - good thing one of us (not me) can keep a calm head during last minute negotiations.
Also did some Centergy training on the new release set to launch on Saturday ...

Worst Part of the Day - Cold n' gloomy and Wes won't nap it up. Boooooo.

Monday January 11, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Getting things together for E's new job - it's all coming together now.

Worst Part of the Day - Major snag in Erik's new job - oh sigh, oh my.

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Wednesday January 13, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Finally touched base with several friends/fam and am gearing up for my tomorrow activs. (Oh no biggie--plan: taking Liam to the Dr. bright and early, popping into job #1, heading to court house for lunchtime divorce, job #2, etc...)

Worst Part of the Day-
Already some weird communication break downs on the work #2 front. Hmmmmmm.

Tuesday January 12, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Will-O's mom picked up both kids from their respective child care places in the pm AND made dinner for all of us. Now that's how this working mom likes to end her day. I swear this woman was about to plop a martini and cig in my hand when I walked through the door. Very nice. (And no rushing around!)

Worst Part of the Day-
Too darn sleepy to do my friend call backs or my online bill paying this eve. (Still have not sent gifts/cards...doh!)

Monday January 11, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Everyone snugglie, tucked in & snoozin' by 7pm. A nice, appropriately long day for all.

Worst Part of the Day-
Wow. I am vastly behind in getting out my New Year's gifts and cards...ooops.

Sunday January 10, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Scooted out to my parents' and the kiddies played. Also picked up 2 bins of newborn-12 month girl clothes I was storing there. I delivered them to a pregnant teen with whom I work who will be leaving our facility soon and needs all the help she can get. (Also a gesture of closure on my part as I plan not for more chilluns.) It was fun to go through the clothes together with my kids and the girls at work. We all oohed and ahhhed at the tiny outfits and I pointed out that was her 1st Mother's Day dress, 6-month pictures dress, her 4th of July cuteness, etc. Awwww.

Worst Part of the Day-
I should've just ran to the grocery store while the kiddies played so I could do it solo and get er done. But didn't. We really need random/necessary items like juice, pull-ups and trash bags and I truly do not have time in the next 48 hours to do it sans kids.

Monday, January 11, 2010

Saturday January 9, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Scarlet had her 1st school mate/play date. She is a tiny red-headed girl who told me straight away she does not like to be referred as a red head. She just wants to be referred to as her name, Lilly.
Lilly, the spitfire, even kind of lives in the neighborhood! It was so funny to see them play and we ended up all doing a group coloring project and fun-with-beads crafts. At one point I eavesdropped on them in Scarl's bedroom. Oddly I heard Scarlet say this: "What's your mom like? My mom is really funny and silly. She's a great sharer and very giving. She's joyful! You'll like her." Her friend replied, "My mom's the same--but she's not funny. Really she's not." (Must relish now as in 2 years they likely will not be talking about their moms during alone time.)

Worst Part of the Day-
No Netflix, no books.

Also, kinda hard to see Liam get the major brush off as he thought Lilly was over to play with him, too. Scarlet did a fine job of being inclusive (she doesn't know yet not to...), but it was clear that Lilly thought Liam was the weird, drooly, highly affectionate little brother who would NOT leave them alone for an instant.

Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!!! 39 years! Are you kidding me?? Congrats Lovebirds!!!!

Friday January 8, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
I have never done this prior, but I broke down and took the kids to McDonald's Playland this eve for din and a lil play after my 10 hour day. They loooooved it and I enjoyed simply sitting and watching them run and play so sweetly with big and littles alike (even if I did look like a tired robot with fairly major dark circles under thine eyes.)
I can see the full-time working moms come to McD's on a thrice weekly basis. It=easy fun. (It also=obesity issues...)

Worst Part of the Day-
Holy cats, I am beat. 5 days down of full-time fun and I am beat. I do declare it's not solely the working part but the rush to deliver and then pick up kids pre and post-work. Oh my.

Side Note:
Friendliest Playland ever (or is this how they always are?):
One mom came up to me after I had to have a chit chat with my sassy and conniving dauther. The mom said, "I need to tell you that I love your dialogue with her. More moms need to take the time and really talk to their kids. That was excellent. Bravo!" I was stunned as I absorbed the compliment. I had to break it to the nice mom that I was calmly chastising my daughter for drinking her brother's hot chocolate--after she slammed her own, after I clearly told her not to, after I asked her to think of how she may react if he even had 1 sip of hers...she did it anyway stating, "I'm obsessed with McDonald's hot chocolate--I couldn't resist!"
Another mom commented on how she loves the name Scarlet and a grandma/grandpa set were chasing Liam around saying how they loved his name!?! Fun on a Friday.

Best Part of the Day-
Snuggling in bed in the toasty warm home!!

Worst Parts of the Day-
1. Scarlet had a bad day at school. She merely received 2 "try harder next time" evaluations in her classes but to a child who lives to be a perfectionist (in the class room setting, at least), this really hit her hard. Apparently there were many tears and she was mortified by the bourgeois "try harder next time". So hard to watch your kid be bummed. (Even when being bummed is simultaneously a great life lesson teacher and character builder.)

2. My driveway was completely plowed in this morn. So at 6:35am when I normally drive Miss S. 1/2 block to wait in a warm car for her bus, we instead hoofed it through 4 foot high snow drifts and waited in the freezing arse cold for 15 minutes for the late, late bus. There is a bit of snow and much cold.

Best Part of the Day-
Completed the movie (watched 1st half last night and thought huh, interesting) Empire of the Sun. Tonight I was blown away. I loved how it wrapped up and ended--and how astonishingly excellent Christian Bale was (as an 11 year-old). That Steven Spielberg knows how to make a picture show.

Worst Part of the Day-
As the date swiftly approaches for Will-O and I to legally dissolve our marriage, I am not feeling this "whew, so glad it's coming and I'll feel so refreshed afterward" feeling. Instead I am feeling quite sad about it and I'm not looking forward to it in any way. It really sucks.

Tuesday January 5, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Working it, doing it.

Worst Part of the Day-
That whole gettin out the door thang. It is ungodly cold here at 6:40am.

Sunday January 10, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Got some major returns done (or ready to be done tomorrow) today - globe, shoes, cappuccino maker. Also went threw all the Christmas cards and filed them away. Plus other minor cleaning that had to be done.
My parents are all set to come and watch the kiddos in Feb. It's Erik's dad's 70th birthday and so all the adult children and heading to Hilton Head. They are both going to come for five days so it should be fun! Whew - so lucky to have them available.

Worst Part of the Day - Kiddos up SUPER early. So first we had to put the MISERABLE Wes down for a nap around 10:45 a.m. Then we had to put down the MISERABLE Quinn down for a nap around 2 p.m. Then the afternoon drug on and on and on.

Saturday January 9, 2010

Best Part of the Day - I kickboxed today and it felt good.

Worst Part of the Day - Took kiddos to McDonalds for some lunch and indoor playtime. About 35 minutes in (I'm JUST settling in with my book and coffee), I look up to see Wes just standing still with a look of grave concentration on his face. By the time I got to him, he had already wet himself. Sigh. Then I'm gathering us up to leave (double sigh) and trying to get him to (literally) keep his pants on, I turn for 30 seconds to talk to this other mom. I turn back and there is Wes, bare bummed squatting in the middle of the playland. Um, okay. I run him to the bathroom and he (clearly) has to poop. We get outta there and beeline home. Boooo.

Friday January 8, 2010

Best Part of the Day - Took babes to the gym and then we all went to the Discovery Place for the rest of the day. A perfect indoor activity and the little ones were completely amused and happy (and I might have learned a thing or two ... but now can't recall. Just like high school.)

Worst Part of the Day - Erik starting to feel the pressure of the new job ... a little ways away and he must get an apartment once again. But after we talked it out (again), I think we both felt better.
Now we've had a Netflix movie missing since Jan. 2. I had changed our address to my parents' in Florida because I wanted to get the latest installment of Everything's Sunny in Philadelphia (but Erik queue screwed me and we got some lame-o straight to video deal.) I changed the address back to ours, but clearly didn't do it quickly enough. It got sent to Florida while Joe was still there. It was the movie Paranormal Activity and Brother Joe swiped it and didn't tell us about it and kept it for nine days. THEN when I complained to him, he said "I was doing you a favor." Um - in what whack job universe is stealing my movie and then taking one week to watch it a favor? Douche.

Thursday January 7, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Call me bougie, I don't care. The cleaning ladies came today and the house has vacuum marks, clean bathrooms (no pee or throw up) and a sparkling kitchen. It lasted, oh about 15 minutes after the boyz came home. But I can still see some vacuum marks and they (lamely) make me happy.
Also did a Centergy training today and it was grand to do some stretching after all the weight work this week. Finally not sore.

Worst Part of the Day - Long afternoon in the house. These boyz are getting WORSE at playing by themselves. They don't want to be home - they want to go on 'adventures'. But adventures are limited when it's 25 degrees out and the adventurers can't sit still.

Wednesday January 6, 2010

Worst Part of the Day - It's been a huge deal around here to say "I'm sick" after Quinn had the pukies. So when Wes said to me "my tummy hurts", I simply said "uh huh" and went right on making his lunch. Then he threw up all over the rug and I had to agree that yes his tummy must hurt. He stayed home with Erik and threw up for most of the morning, poor sweet. By about 3:30 p.m. he had some solid food. By about 4:30 p.m. he was jumping off the couch and I was (kind of) wishing for the lethargic Wes.

Best Part of the Day - Workout and then some Mexican food. Had little 'ladies who lunch' lunch. And these ladies were working and stay at home types, just gathering for a simple meal based mostly of chips and salsa. Very, very fun and so very close to the preschool so (three of us, at least) could chat extra long.

Monday January 4, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Smooth sailing. Successfully made it out the door with 2 dressed and fed kids and a tastefully dressed and made-upped (hey-and teeth brushed!) self by 7:15am. Nutritious lunches for 3 packed and me right on time for 2nd part-time job which started today. Run-on sentence time: Alright, so bazillions of working moms do this mildly hectic readying dance each weekday morn at 7, and wow I have avoided it thus far in my mom world so I gotta seriously suck it up--but man, I was worried 'bout the morn. Whew.

Worst Part of the Day-
Found myself sitting in the orientation feeling like "why the hell am I doing this??" Yes, I enjoy a hard day's work, but let's face it, my heart is not in this one, people....so sad when the real reason I am taking a second job is for a 2nd life insurance--soley to quell my fear of death now that I am a mom...(well known fact--they don't let peeps with a baboon heart take out tons of insurance for cheap...doh.)

Tuesday January 5, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - Limping around like Wes Welker today (is that a correct reference? I think he tore his ACL and of course I love his name.) So damn sore. Maybe too much o' sitting around over the Holiday break??

Best Part of the Day - Got in a Trader Joe's run today - picked up some quick, healthy items for my bad self (low sodium butternut squash soup, anyone?) A preschool teacher stopped me to tell me how sweet Wes was today - seems he accidentally hit someone with his big wheel handle and immediately stopped, rubbed the girl's head and said "are you okay? I sorry. Are you hurt?" The cynical side of me thinks - He's an excellent apologizer as he has to do it so often. But still very nice to hear.

Monday January 4, 2009

TGFPS!!! Thank God For PreSchool! We're back on schedule and it's grand for the entire fam.

Best Part of the Day -
Had the first day of my Let's Lose 10 Lbs program. Consisted of calorie counting and working out. Feels good.

Worst Part of the Day - You know it's bad when you feel sore DIRECTLY after completing a workout. Uh oh.

Forgot to Mention - Last week I got the e-mail that I have been certified to teach Centergy! Now I'm getting in my paperwork to the gym and getting a schedule set ... I don't think it will be too many classes at first. We'll see.

Sunday January 3, 2009

Best Part of the Day - While Erik attended the Panthers/Saints game - the boyz and I had a fun outing to an indoor playground and then some snacking. We arrived home and Wes took a nap while Quinn and I played in the basement.

Worst Part of the Day - Hate to complain (esp because I have o so many Midwestern amigos) but baby, it's cold outside! And I'm weirdly never appropriately dressed for the weather - I'm either way overdressed or way underdressed. Need to get with the layering program - but am too busy just trying to get out the door.

Sunday January 3, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Snuggling with the kids at night. This cold night we all slept in my bed and it was cozy and sweet. (Usually I need my space and demand each to be in respective beds.)

Worst Part of the Day-
Thought Will-O was being needlessly crabby and it bugged (when his day was filled with a workout and many hours of football viewing, at least be happy!) It may have bugged more as we had been getting along well for a few days...ho hum.

Saturday January 2, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Solitude. Will-O had the kidlets overnight so instead of going out and galavanting, I stayed in and organized in peace. I somehow sifted out 7 bags of clothes for a shelter I found that needs baby, kid and adult stuff--I had much to share. Also re-arranged my bedroom and watched 13 Going on 30--thought it was pretty funny/cute. (Must I get out more?!)

Worst Part of the Day-
Serious cold temps have hit. (Zero degrees). Though the cold may have kept me in and on my best behavior.

Friday January 1, 2010

Best Part of the Day-
Snuggling with the kiddies after my arrival home!!! Happy New Year!

Worst Part of the Day-
Driving home in the AM (which really was not that bad--zero traffic once again!!) after my measley 4 hours of sleep. Feeling slightly wobbly and allergy-ridden after sleeping with a cat in the home. Arrrggghhh.

Thursday December 31, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Tucked the kidlets into bed this eve and drove without a hitch (zero traffic) to Chicago. (Made it in 1hr 20 minutes!) Attended intimate gathering of great friends and it was fun, funny fun.
Though a hair awkward at the midnight bells (being single with all other couples), did not feel a tad depressed as I thought I may--as NYE was always a low-key holiday that Will-O and I would contentedly boycott and stay in and hang...

Worst Part of the Day-
Challenging to access hidden energy to make it all day and all night.

Wednesday December 30, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Went sledding with the kiddies and Brother Mike and my mom. It was a BLAST counter to what I recall from being a little bittle (icky memories of sledding on a gigantic hill and despising the walk back up and getting frost bitten toes and fingers...) This hill was a perfecto size, it was grand exercise for all and zero complaints of frost bite. Perhaps the outer wear is far superior these days, but Scarlet declared she was "burning hot" the whole time. Also great fun to witness my daughter, the athletic dare devil. Perhaps one winter away from her snow boarding as she attempted to surf on the sled. Very fun.

Worst Part of the Day-
Hectic getting the kiddies bundled and ready to sled. Come on, little people, you know it will be fun!

Saturday January 2, 2010

Worst Part of the Day - Quinn spent the night throwing up (peaches and mac n' cheese. Yummy.) And Wes peed out his bed. So there was a lot o' laundry going on. Q lethargic for the first part of the day, then perked right up and ate 3 waffles. Fights over pedialite abound. (I'm sick, yells Wes to try and procure the drink.)

Best Part of the Day - Took Wes on a solo outing. We went out to eat, to Old Navy and then to the grocery store. For these two plus hours, he was DELIGHTFUL. He sat and ate at the restaurant, listened, obeyed and cracked me up. What fun! Then out to a movie (It's Complicated) with Ann. Afterward we found a bar, and stayed there talking and having some drinks until 2 a.m. What the what!?! So very great as usual to sit and chat uninterrupted. And I found the movie to be hilarious and fun to watch from beginning to end. Contrived, well yes, but amusing nonetheless. Then again - me loves a movie in the theater these days no matter what!

Friday January 1, 2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR! While many good things happened during 2009 - overall I can't say I'm sorry to see it go. Bring on 2010 and the HAPPY, HAPPY, JOY, JOY I just know is acomin'

Best Part of the Day - Took kiddos to Discovery Place and it was excellent fun for us all. They have a new set up and both boyz were totally into it and having a blast. Came home to host Chris, Anna and the kiddos. We had drinks (well just Erik and I :), played a game, watched some games, chit chatted and ate. The boyz played and played and played. Wonderful.

Worst Part of the Day - Brutal morning until we got the boyz out of the house.

Thursday December 31, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Although it would have been nice to be in Jax partying and away from the kiddos - it was also nice to quaff champagne with my beloved on the couch while the two little ones slept upstairs.

Worst Part of the Day - Trying and trying to think of things to keep the kiddos occupied. Am needing warmer weather and/or preschool to start back up!

Wednesday December 30, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Against our better judgment, but DYING to get out of the house, we took the kiddos to see Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. It was at the cheapie theater ($8 for the whole family), so we figured if we had to vacate it was no big deal (or less of a deal than $36). The kiddos were perfection and the movie surprisingly good. After the movie we were in Chris and Ann's neck of the woods (i.e. South Charlotte), so we invited ourselves over and had our usual fun, food, family deal until 9 p.m. Nice.

Worst Part of the Day - With THREE minutes to go in the movie, Wes announced he had to pee. Then Quinn said he had to as well. So I don't know how it ended up 100%, but I've got a good ideer he gets the grrrl.

Community - Got the oil changed by driving to Wal-Mart and dropping off the car. I then put both boyz in a one bebe stroller (it is possible) and pushed them to the gym. (They LIVED for this by the way, despite the 35 degree weather.) By the time I was done with my class and some extra cardio, the oil changes was complete! Ahhh - this must be what it's like to live somewhere walkable :) Me likey.

Tuesday December 29, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Kiddos playing, arguing, whining, misbehavin', napping all in the comfort of our own house with only us to witness. Deeelightful.

Worst Part of the Day - It tis annoying when you hand your car over for an oil change, are told 45 minutes, come back one hour later and find it hasn't even entered the garage yet Sigh. Tomorrow it shall be.
