Friday January 30, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Kiddos to bed without incident (it does help with bedtime now that Quinn seems to have given up his nap), dinner and vino while watching Lost and then FNL. To bed early.

Worst Part of the Day - Terrible night sleep due to Erik getting called in at around 3 a.m. Then he didn't get home until late and he was BEAT. We about had words until I realized I was dealing with someone who had less sleep than me (and I felt terribly tired) - then I backed off. He apologized and all was well ... well better. Only a few more months of work BS for him ... end of June will hopefully be here soon.

Sidenote - it's weird to be in the in between stage with napping and Q. He mentally doesn't want it, physically could use it and is probably going to sleep at night easier and quicker without it. No more daily alone time.

Best Part of the Day-
(My best parts are getting increasingly lame...must step it up...)
Found a new skin care line called, Rejuvi.  Terrible name, but must say I am noticing results.  I am largely cynical of all things in a skin care line since I read a report years ago that stated the ONLY things that dictate how good one's skin looks is:  genetics, muscle-use relating to wrinkle formation (why Botox works) and sun-damage.  Anyhoo, I gotta give Rejuvi something--my skin is far less old lady-ish in 4 days time.

Worst Part of the Day-
Still have not found a plane ticket for my Girls Getaway to Miami Trip which is swiftly approaching...eek.I may have to bend on my never paying over $200/ticket rule.  Fudgsicles.

Thursday January 29, 2009

Best Part of the Day - We did have a full afternoon in the nice weather. To the doctor, to the Nature Museum and to the playground. Whew - we were all tired by the time we got home - but so nice to have some outdoor activity after all the rain.

Worst Part of the Day - Had Wes' two year Well Visit today. That STUPID (yes, stupid) waiting room is the WORST. No toys, the fish were 'sick' and the kiddos can reach the door. So my children were RUNNING (I do mean running) around the halls as I tired over and over to corral them. I was overheated by the end. Gross. Not to mention that I was 10 minutes early and then waited an extra 15 minutes after my appointment time (so this was 25 full minutes of the crazies running, jumping off furniture, slamming the door .... I tried to stop it until my appointment time and then kind of gave up. I'm going to be late from now on.)

Side Note - Also had Quinn's preschool conference today - and it cracked me up. He is THREE. But my theory is that they set these conferences up in case there is a real problem kiddo - then the parent does not feel as confronted and is less likely to be defensive. It's all I can figure as we talked about how Quinn was perfectly fine is for five minutes and then talked about her son's wisdom teeth removal for five minutes and then talked about another kid in the classroom who's mom keeps sending him in underwear and keeps having accidents (this is where my theory comes from).

Wednesday January 28, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Quinn sounds soooo good with his speech! The speech path said today that in the past four months she has seen amazing progress and can really understand his simple sentences and questions. It is getting easier by the day to really understand what he is saying - and so much of it is hilarious. And Wes is chatting it up too - I don't think he is advanced in his speech, but I'd say it is about average (which to us is AMAZING as we didn't get that with Quinn).

Worst Part of the Day - Feeling very, very tired due to crappy sleep last night. At Quinn's speech appointment, Wes showed how tired he was as well. He alternatively cried, screamed and/or a little of both as I tried to wrestle with him in the hallways of the elementary school (we had to leave the actual speech session as he was so disruptive). Extra bonus was the line of 3rd graders waiting to use the bathroom who had their fingers in their ears.

Wednesday January 28, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Vastly productive:  AM workout, Dr. appt, work, wrote thank you notes, paid bills, cooked organic din, solidified weekend plans, cleaned up repeatedly after 2 year-old mad man AND cyber chatted with long lost friends via fb...whew.

Worst Part of the Day-
As well-behaved as Miss S. has been lately, Mr. L. has been inversely proportional.  In simple terms, Liam was a destructive freak.  He was terrorizing me:  ripping up my newly organized (and alphabetized--why?) binder full of paid bills, grabbing food out of the fridge all day and pulling apart pieces as he hiked all over the home leaving a trail Hansel would have killed for.  Even at the sitter's (he is always excellent there), he pooped during naptime, ripped off the diap and proceeded to smear his poop around the bed...oh my.  (How many times can a mom apologize for these antics???)
Being vastly productive is vastly tiring.  Couldn't even watch FNL (still dorkily catching myself up from season #2--on nbc.com)

Happy B-day Sara B.!!  Missing you.

Tuesday January 27, 2009

Best Part of the Day - During the preschool hours I organized the sh*t out of our move - forwarded mail with the USPS, changed all magazines to new address (man, we get a lot of magazines - mostly I think from those airline mile promos), arranged for local movers to come over and give a quote, canceled or transferred all utilities, canceled cable and looked into other options for our TV habit (HATE HATE HATE Time Warner). I felt clearheaded and ready to go!
Also finally got to watch FNL .... I wonder, where is Jason Street? And the Smash Williams/ACL story resonated with Erik - he's been jumping up and down on his ACL'd knee ever since (and I swear I saw him tear up - but he denies, denies, denies). Also am using the word "babe" 24/7 in direct emulation of Tami Taylor.

Worst Part of the Day - Quinn was not sleepy this evening (maybe due to his two and a half hour nap this afternoon?) and I finally had to go in and lay down with him (which I have NEVER had to do.) But now I know why parents do it - he was in snoozeland in 15 minutes. However, at 3 a.m. (and yes this would really be Jan. 28 but lets not split hairs) Wes was WAILING for "milk, milk, milk, milk, milk, milk, milk." This was probably due to the fact that he did not have an afternoon snack and ignored dinner. And, yes, in case you are wondering .... I did give him the dern milk. Also have never done that. Hmmmm - seems our "nevers" are turning into "if it makes them sleep - DO IT."

Tuesday January 27, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Scarlet continues to be exemplary in all ways relating to her behavior.  She is helpful, thoughtful, affable and most importantly--listens to instructions!!!  I am not sure what is happening, but let's keep it comin!  Loving it.

Worst Part of the Day-
I took my car to get an oil change today.  As a responsible car owner I do these things at "my car place" right down the street.  I trust these guys, I've gone to them regularly for about a year. Today I asked for "the usual"--the oil change and the 15 point inspection (not totally sure what all 15 are), but today my bill was not the $40.00 I was expecting--it was $400.00.  In addition to the dang oil change, they flushed the brake system, changed the front brake pads, changed something 'cause a tail light and blinker need something....omg.

Monday January 26, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Will-O's mom arranged for he and I to have a few hours to talk--sans kiddos (seems like we haven't for months or years, I really don't recall.)  We had a downright fair time.  I said, "Sure, let's go as friends."  He said, "Friends!  Yes.  Friends are best."  We ate pizza and talked without tension.  We even laughed.  (Who knew we could?)  Also saw The Wrestler--which I have been dying to see.  Two thumbs up.  (Mickey Rourke--honestly, Oscar.  No doubt.)

Worst Part of the Day-
When we all arrived home, it seemed Will-O had left the oven on...ahh for 3 hours.  That mistake heaped on a bit of the home-style tension to which I've become accustom.  Yeah, yeah, everyone makes mistakes.  (Seriously, are we 89 years-old?)
Alright--on the upside, he has taken it upon himself to cook organic meals...on the downside, we are not being efficient with our fossil fuels...and potentially could burn down our home...
oh well.

Sunday January 25, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Snuggling up with the chitlins.  Scarlet asked me to sit in the back seat in between she and Liam on our drive home from the gym.  All 3 of us laughed and tickled and smooched the entire ride home...why hadn't I squeezed into this tiny 8 inch space before?!  So novel and unexpectedly fun in a mom n' kidz kinda way.

Worst Part of the Day-
Confusing, confusing on the home front.  It's this, it's that, it's here, oh wait, it's over there.  Will-O, puh-lease.  I burst into (borderline hysterical) laughter at one point and Will-O commented genuinely, "Oh, I'm glad you're laughing...I thought you might be crying."  The thing is, I really could go either way...on the drop of a dime.

Monday January 26, 2009

Best Part of the Day - The kiddos were ... excellent. I mean, there were still moments, but mostly it was a fun, fun day. They were so giggly and in fine spirits and playful. It was very, very good.

Worst Part of the Day - The move is starting to hang over my head. Must .... Get .... Organized. Have to start thinking about (UGH!) packing. Will feel better when I have the local movers set up which should be this week.

Sunday January 25, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Again with the sleeping in and then Bobbi, Stacia and I headed over to Val's house for brunch. Again with the leisurely eating, chatting and general laughing. So much fun. Arrived home and recapped the weekend for an attentive Erik. Glad to be home and in my own bed.

Worst Part of the Day - Body rebelling a bit from the late night, champagne and rich food. Travel day which felt hot and crowded - but still so peaceful in a "I have two peschoolers" kind of way.

NOTE - I finished a Newsweek today. Had not read one in over four months (!). Hopefully this is the start of a new trend.

Saturday January 24, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Up late morning (9:30 a.m.!) and head out to breakfast with Bobbi and Stacia. Delish! Then to Whole Foods for items for Bellinis. Valerie comes over around 2 p.m. The makeup lady (we had her come over to do some makeovers and give makeup tips) comes over at 4 p.m. - POP goes the first of SIX bottles of champagne. WHOA. After makeovers and much merrymaking we head out to this Coco Sala restaurant. AMAZING food and presentation. So much fun to hang with the ladies and catch up and argue and gossip and just hang the hell out. LOVIN' it.

Worst Part of the Day - Cannot partake in many of the desserts at Coco Sala due to the fact that I am full to about puking from 95 Bellinis and some appetizers. Boooooo.

Saturday January 24, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Working out.  Though I missed my Body Pump class (was on time, but it was packed full!!)  I saw a friend working out there who does Iron Man triathlons (half and full ones!!!  omg.)  It was inspiring to see her all ripped and healthy.  (She has worked out for a minimum of 4 hours/day for the past 3 years, mind you.)

Worst Part of the Day-
Blew off plans with friends as a result of super duper sleepy syndrome.  (Pretty lame weekend thus far.)

Friday January 23, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Dorkily, it was FNL. That's right, Friday Night Lights, for those who are not as cool as I...heh heh. After the regularly scheduled program I proceeded to watch the end of season 2 online just to cheezily catch-up...

Worst Part of the Day-
I skipped the workout today (hello, now I am slightly into this exercise thang) to give the kids some downtime after their day at the sitter's. (Miss S. didn't have school.) Also, I wondered why I felt oddly stressed this work week and after noting my hours for this week, I have almost doubled my usual easy breezy 20 weekly hours...and I still MUST put in some extra hours tomorra to simply get it all done--eek.

Thursday January 22, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Liam's room and "big boy bed" is officially setup after a smooth mattress delivery this am. Both kids zonked out with no complaints. Hoorah. No more co-sleeping!?
Also--got to finally meet cousin, Hazel (16 month-old who lives far away in Montana...). Fun, fun to have the lil kids play.

Worst Part of the Day-
A bit of rushing around...up at 6a, down at 11p with nary a break.

Friday January 23, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - I'm leaving the gym with Tante Ann and I smell the rancid smell o' crap from one of the boyz. Oh well - almost home. I put Wes down to hug Tante Ann and realize - he has something on his shoe. It is shit. "Oh he must have stepped in something," says Ann. But I notice that it is also on his little leg. He had somehow had this soft poop that EXPLODED down his entire half side and has now on his shoe and on my pants. I take off the shoe and put him in the car (this is a mess that can ONLY be cleaned up at home.) The whole ride home Wes is looking at his leg and saying "YUCK." Indeed, my sweet. So he goes right into the bath and we get him washed up and then Quinn needs a change and then I'm trying to get a late lunch going and Quinn wants to eat out of the bag of chips instead of from his plate (no) and it's getting late and I need to get in the shower because I have to finish packing and catch my plane and .... CALGON TAKE ME AWAY.

Best Part of the Day - Once I'm at the airport - zen. I read 75% of a book (The Road by Cormac McCarthy - INTENSE) on the plane. Read a magazine, relaxed! Got picked up by friends Bobbi and Stacia, got burgers and beer and headed to Stacia's house. Chatted, ate, drank, relaxed (!). SO FUN! Finished my book before bed and slipped into dreamland. Aaaahhhhhh.

Thursday January 22, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - Too much cleaning - getting ready for Erik's parents to come in town. It feels like it's ALL I've been doing. Today I had the privilege of vacuuming the entire house, then steam cleaning all the carpets, dusting woodwork, cleaning toilets, cleaning mirrors ... can't wait to get back to our slobbier lifestyle.

Best Part of the Day - A successful preschool day - hooray! I did get a quick trip to Target in complete with a tea latte and some leisurely strolling through the aisles. Sigh - always zen like.

Wednesday January 21, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Picking up Miss S. from her very first First Stage class.  It is an extracurricular drama class at the local Youth Arts Center.  On top of hoping she will be able to channel her melodramatic ways to hits on the stage, I also highly enjoyed that her school shuttles her to the class (they are affiliated) and I had to merely pick her up.  She was such a big kid walking down the hallway: she was sporting her new First Stage tee and was happily chatting away with her new dramatic classmates.  She beamed when she saw me and then went crazy with telling me how "cool" and "awesomely awesome" everything was.  She then explained how she needed money next week and every Wednesday for the vending machines.  I recall my art of hitting my parents for cash "for vending machines" started around 7th grade and I fear it was for more than forbidden chips (fake nails for all who thought it was something much worse...we just stole cigs and liquor...tee-hee)
Anyhoo, it was fantastic to see my big kid thriving in society sans mom for an hour.  Vastly different than our fall soccer experience!  Thank the heavens.

Also, Sir Liam is now saying "over here" "over there" when asked for a toy, his mitten, a mess he made, etc.  It kills as he says it with a perfect New York accent.  Actually like blue collar worker from the Bronx.

Worst Part of the Day-
A ton of work to do at work (duh).  I did chip away at the never ending pile, but man oh man, diligence sure can tire one.
Followed by the standard nonstop work at home.  I did successfully fix the wooden frame of my bed (cracked from none other than kids jumping on it every time they enter the room--for years).  Scarlet assisted me (for her $1.00 fee) in somehow successfully putting together Liam's toddler bed.  Great to check these items off the fix-it list, just bugging that I have to do them with children literally crawling on top of me.

Tuesday January 20, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Obama!  Coffee, Thera-Flu and Gatorade.  (In that order).

Worst Part of the Day-
Illin. Yes, I did have a few cocktails (3) last night, but the consumption ended by midnight-ish...
Regardless, I awoke with the lovely combo of chills, body aches, headache--and this annoying dry cough I've had for days just blew up to respiratory infection level.  Flu--is that you???

Also, I had to had to had to go to work for a large part of the day (it has been a bit intense lately) and attend a work meeting at 4pm (this means arrange sitter--arrrgghh).  This meeting was intended as a round table discussion with the parents of the girl who is faking fainting spells and now asthma attacks for attention.  What I thought would be a cut and dried meeting (she has a vast history of pathological lying and the not-so-fun diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder--she has been faking stuff for years to get crazy amounts of medical attention), turned out to be migraine-inducing and quite possibly the least therapeutic for my achin' bones.  The parents accused us as not responding appropriately to their daughter's "emergencies" and would barely admit that this poor child is capable of lying her tukis off day and night!!!!  For the second time this week, Nursie do not play dat!!

Monday January 19, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Martin Luther King Jr. Day allowed me to do more than recall that man's greatness...it allowed me to do my 'Health Night' during the day.  (I made trail mix with the girls at work in an attempt to introduce them to a healthier option than flamming hot Cheetos.  It worked!  They loved it.) This, in turn, allowed me to get a haircut , workout and meet out for some cocktails in my usual "Health Night" time slot.  Yes.

Worst Part of the Day-
Feeling a bit back into survival mode...a bit less eating for me (just rushing around like a freak--as always difficult for me to be clean, fed and on time), way less water consumption (my New Year's res...).  Things are pretty awful with Will-O and perhaps on a new level.  I am now fielding calls from numerous friends/family asking, "Is everything alright with him?"  Ah, no.  It's not alright.  Remember summertime when I clearly stated it wasn't alright?!  Yes, that still continues.  It is bad.  His parents are highly concerned and we are back to plan of interventions and plain talking (did that ever end?).
This time around (7 untreated months later), I am now feeling a culmination of:  super duper sick of being partner-less as I swing it all, exhaustion from playing PR rep on Will-O's behalf, feeling sad/sad/sad for Will-O as I do only want love and peace for him, feeling disloyal even as I type as I don't want others to judge him based on personal info, feeling depressed due to all of the above.
Instead of a win-win, I am feeling a lose-lose swiftly approaching.

Happy B-Day to the hottest 50-something "cousin" I know--Cousin Pate!!

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Wednesday January 21, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - See yesterday January 20, 2009 - about the same. Erik home early and the boyz in Wild Thing mode (much cuter in a picture book than real life). They were both in naughty room for majority of the afternoon for various crimes and misdemeanors. Then right before dinner, Quinn took a puzzle I had cleaned up three times and dumped it all over the kitchen floor and laughed in my face when I gave him three separate chances to pick it up. That was like the picture book in that he was sent to bed with no supper. Sad? Yes. Necessary? Hell yeah. That kiddo is pushing limits and we're here to set them back in place. It's exhausting. And Wes? Every time you put him in naughty room he takes off his pants - so I've cleaned up lots of shit over the past two days. Charming.

Best Part of the Day - Erik continues to be a trouper in the parenting/discipline/partner department. He might realize that one foul word will send me right over the edge or maybe he just sees how hard it is at the moment ... either way it's good stuff outta him from bathing a shit covered Wes to helping me make them clean up the messes they created.
Also - plans for my upcoming DC weekend are in place. My in-laws will be here on Friday and hopefully this will give Erik a much needed break too.

Tuesday January 20, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - Preschool canceled due to freak Charlotte snowstorm. Now that word 'snowstorm' I'm going to use loosely as there was about five inches of rapidly melting snow on the ground. The roads were dry, dry, dry. So I had to take the kiddos grocery shopping - but they did really great. The bad part was that the boyz spend them majority of the day in time out or in their rooms being punished. Oh my sweet Quinn - testing limits by laughing in my face while dumping toys, books, pens, books, magazines on the floor; body slamming the dog; play slapping his mama (um - NO thanks even in play). And Wes likes to dump food for fun - smoothies, bowls of cereal, whole bags of Quakes. OH LORD how many times I used the dust pan and the vacuum today. It's no good and I have a bad feeling it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Best Part of the Day - Erik was home early so he was witness to the craziness and downright evilness of both boys. He was an excellent partner through it all - no blaming of me (as has been done prior), good discipliner while asking my opinion and grand commiserater ('I don't know how you do it' and ' we need to find them some other care so you can get a break.') Give that man a medal.

Oh did we get a new president today? Sorry I missed out on the speeches, amazing historical moment and the like - too busy cleaning up and putting children in naughty room. SIGH.

Monday January 19, 2009

Best Part of the Day - The boyz and I had a fun afternoon of playing and singing and dancing. Erik was trying to sleep off some sickness downstairs and couldn't even hear us.

Worst Part of the Day - Erik home early (only had ACLS class today). He is ill, ill, ill. He laid moaning on the couch and then had to medicate.

Happy Birthday to Cousin Pate'!

Sunday January 18, 2009

Best Part of the Day - This is a sad best part - but we broke down and took the kiddies to Mickey D's. Why, you might ask? All has to do with an indoor playground and two boyz who needed to run, climb and jump. Sure there are other places we could have done this - but not where we could get trans fat free nuggets (I read the happy meal bag). I burned my tounge on a latte (maybe that lawsuit had a point - man that coffee was hot) and ate apple slices. Excellent naps for all.

Worst Part of the Day - Lengthy afternoon and I'm still not well. Now Erik is feeling some sickness.... it's not going to end.

Monday, January 19, 2009

Sunday January 18, 2008

Best Part of the Day-
1. Awoke in the morn to find the kitchen sink had accepted both the environmentally-friendly drain cleaner: vineagar and baking soda (cost $1.69) and the cancer-causing caustic kind: Drain-O (cost $7.70).
2. Saw Slumdog Millionaire this eve. I was blow away and emotionally moved for 2 hours post-viewing. Outstanding. It's gotta win Best Picture.

Worst Part of the Day-
I guess just checking in at work today. It seems we have a girl who fakes fainting spells. It is sooooo obvious that she is orchestrating things to get attention. Too bad I am not fooled easily. A double too bad that her mom believes her and chastised me for not calling emergency services. For what? A child lying down on a floor for attention?? (Tip-if you're going to fake faint, at least fake a fall--don't slowly lower yourself to the floor and lay splayed out with your tongue hanging out of your mouth--not realistic.) Nursie don't play dat.

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Saturday January 17, 2009

Best Part of the Day - HAPPY BIRTHDAY WESSSSSSS! You made it to two. Amazing. He had some fun presents, cousins and cake. Wes was pretty sweet all day and loved to open all his prizes. Hooray for baby bein' two!
Also finished last episode of FNL and began episode one of the new season!

Worst Part of the Day - I'm still not feeling all that well - can BARELY breathe though my nose. So my lips are all chapped from my mouth breathing and am constantly sniffling. When is this going to go away?? I feel some sinus pressure coming on.

Friday January 16, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Met Ann at Group Power at noon. Good workout and fun to chat in between the sets. Then FNL and some din din.

Worst Part of the Day - About to kill the children. Many, many timeouts for my snotty little Quinn. How did he turn from Mr. Sweet to Mr. SASS in a day?? The threes really are the TERRIBLE years. But removing all toys from his room and then putting him in said room seemed to work .... for awhile. They are just DESTROYING everything and all I do is pick up, pick up, pick up all their mindless destruction. Getting old - can't wait for the new house where things will be away from their little eyes and hands.
Also Erik decided to cut the boyz hair .... um, let's just say that both now seem to be channeling Edwards Furlong and Norton from American History X. Well - at least it will grow. Will post some photos of the little skinheads soon.

Thursday January 15, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Anally made 10 'Wes Is 2' cupcakes to bring in to Wes' preschool class effectively ignoring Erik's "they don't have to perfect -these are PRESCHOOLERS.' (Which is kind of role reversal for us as I'm usually the one who's saying 'who cares - it looks fine!' For some reason I don't my kid to be the one with the forgetful, flighty mom. I know, I know probably too late for that.)
Also went out with Ann for dinner and a movie. Had a yummy salad at Dean & Deluccia and then off to Marley & Me. The movie was good - not so lighthearted. I was weeping through most of it. And when they have two boys close together and the second has colic - I thought "I don't need to watch this, I LIVED this." But unlike Jennifer Anniston, my hair didn't always looks so perfect or clean. I did like it though - more than I thought I would.

Worst Part of the Day - Quinn had a nap strike today and since I spent most of my free time on house buying paperwork (again), I didn't get much free time. UGH!

Funny Moment - The replacement Froggie Softie came for Wes today. We introduced it to him expecting a huge grin and lots of excitement (ala Quinn). Instead he took one look at it and tossed it across the room like I'm no chump, that is NOT Froggie Softie! IMPOSTER!!!

Saturday January 17, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Working out in the early eve (pre-wine tasting.) Hip hip for health!!

Worst Part of the Day-
Dudes, this kitchen sink is officially bugging. No flow. I took apart all of the pipes in the underbelly of the sink world. (Who taught me how to do this??) No clog noted....seems like a way bigger issue...
Boo.

Note: Happy 2nd B-day to Sir Wesson Oil!!!

Friday January 16, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
My mom came to get the kidz for an overnight so I could attend my book club gathering. Woo-hoo. I cleaned, I organized, I exercised and made a yummy organic soup from scratch all between the hours of 4p and 6p. Then a perfect gathering of womyn at my friend, Megan's, with delectable eats and grand discussions. Yeah for feminism.

Worst Part of the Day-
Scarlet is in this semi-annoying mode of obsessively planning elaborate play dates.  She will say over and over and over, "Mom, I have a great idea. Amelia can come over and then we can go to Grandma Barb's and have a sleep over.  Then we can go sledding and ice skating and make hot chocolate and pancakes..." I will have to nix her enthusiam by saying, "Whoa, whoa, whoa--I have to talk with Amelia's mom and grandma Barb and really that probably can't happen 'cause G-ma Barb's is kinda far for Amelia and we really need to plan these types of things in advance..." Miss S. will start to freak and not understand, "but I am planning and this is in advance!!!" And then she will keep pitching equally unattainable play date plans. Over and over and over.  And over and over she gets shot down.  I'm not trying to be a party pooper--living in reality can be a downer...

Thursday January 15, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Successfully transported the chits to the gym. Play for them, yeah for me!!

Worst Part of the Day-
Something is horribly up with the kitchen sink. Arrrgggghhh. Not draining. Are pipes frozen? Clogged with yicky food debris? With two or more toothbrushes? (Liam's signature move.) I am not in the mood for a plumbing issue.
Also, school was cancelled due to "freezing temperatures". Yes, it is freezing--it is cold, it is winter, it is glorious Wisconsin.

Wednesday January 14, 2009

Best Part of the Day - We did decide to have a Structural Engineer come look at the house and the price (while not cheap) was about 80% less than we thought it was going to be.

Worst Part of the Day - My not feeling well combined with two extraordinarily naughty kiddos led to yelling, threatening, stomping, five time outs and finally a spanking for Mr. Quinn. I didn't know what else to do when he insisted on sitting on TOP of the TV - a safety issue if ever I saw one (for both the TV (our only one) and him). And he was laughing (seriously laughing) at time out. It was a terrible afternoon that made me want to leave the house and never return (well maybe to pick up some of my stuff). I finally let him out of his room after he helped me pick it up (after trashing it like some 80s rock star) and then he was sweet as pie. Meanwhile Wes had trashed the kitchen by dumping his smoothie on the dog and the floor. About .... to ..... lose ..... it. Must remain calm and just dream about their bedtime.

Tuesday January 13, 2008

Worst Part of the Day - Not feeling 100% - can feel the start of a sore throat. Also had to come to a decision regarding the home inspection and a foundation issue. I do love (at times) that Erik is so careful and a non-emotional decision maker. However, I am also just needing to be done and done with the back and forth, paperwork shit. Today (after trying to find the W-2's from 2006 for the ninth time the mortgage company says 'well, the underwriter hasn't asked for them yet - so hold tight.' OH HOLD TIGHT - after spending hours on this and bugging everyone from Erik's and my old workplaces and looking through hundreds of sheets of paper?? Sure I'll hold tight ... to this large glass of vino.

Best Part of the Day - Arranged some much needed adult, ladies only time for the upcoming week. Mama needs a break and some outside the home time.

Best Part of the Day-
1. Mad Men. Love it.
2. Found the cellie.
3. The kids were both pretty dern good today. Scarlet was helpful and A LISTENER!!!! Liam was his adorable and cuddly and good natured self. Smooth sailing. Thanks, kids.

Worst Part of the Day-
No time for exercise today.
I also have this nagging feeling that I am forgetting something...a birthday, a meeting, a phone...it seems like it could be something very obvious. (Sorry for what ever it is.)

Tuesday January 13, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Did sneak in an exercise session this late afternoon. Felt great. Perhaps I am learning quite late in life how to channel energy (i.e. irritation/agitation) into a bad ass workout. I am feeling stronger and way more cardio-vascularly fit than 2 weeks ago.

Worst Part of the Day-
1. I received yet another call from Scarl's school saying she "threw up". Let me guess? It happened in the lunch room? Yes, yes. She gagged and then threw up? Hmmm. Just like the other 3 times. Let it be known that Miss S. is highly dramatic and at times acts like a only child diva starring on that horrifyingly interesting show Sweet 16. She doesn't like to watch "babies" eat (anyone 5 years or younger if they are slurping away) as they can be messy and seeing food on their chunky little fingers and face makes her audibly gag. She also is quirky about watching others devour meat and lick any kind of sauce from their fingers--chubby or not. She also gags like a Valley Girl when she sees food crumbs/debris floating in any kind of beverage--worst is to see things floating in chocolate milk. (Gag even me with a spoon envisioning that...) These are all highly probable visions while eating in a grade school cafeteria. It's not throwing up, Teach--it is melodramatic gagging by a girlie who wants to ditch class and watch some tube.
2. I have absolutely no idea where my cell phone is. It is dead, that I know. (I was about due for a little find-the-phone game.)

Monday January 12, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
I was (semi-last minute) ousted from my Health Group at work tonight. I met my mom at the nearby theater and we she treated me to the 7:20 showing of The Reader. Intense. Glad to hear Ms. Winslet won the Golden Globe for her role. Would like to discuss this flick further...

Also, Littlest Li of Land and Sea is now saying fairly regularly, "I love you, Mama." I forgot how awesome this is to hear--all day and night. Love it.

Worst Part of the Day-
A titch of a hectic day at work: a large Marge medication error (not by me, but still), some furious parents, a diabetic teen with crazily high sugars--every 2 hour monitoring to avoid a trip to the ER, some loose lipped staff, on-call docs who take their sweet, sweet time calling back, blah, blah, blee. I was almost tragically late for my mom date...come on, I need to see a picture show!

Also, Liam seems to be digressing. He is starting to get downright p.o'd when I leave or get ready to leave. As soon as he sees me putting on my coat he will crumple up his face and inquire, "You going bye bye?!" and then he will attempt to take my coat off and hide it. It makes it extra hard to get out of the house. At least with my coat.

Sunday January 11, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Finally moved shenanigans out of the extra bedroom/office.   Liam will be getting his own NEW room.  Thank heavens!!  (No more musical beds--at least in theory.)  Thanks, friends, for the use of AND moving of toddler bed #1.  Let's get this big boy bed thang going on.

Worst Part of the Day-
Will-O and I moved the futon to the basement.  (It looks perfect there--who knew?)  Highly annoying to have to be the foreman on the de-semble and re-assemble project (alright--those ma not be actual words.)  Sometimes it can be fun putting things together.  This was not especially fun:  several cuts to the fingers/hands, some under-the-breath mumbling, and that Allen wrench thing is pretty lamesville.

Saturday January 10, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Fitting it all in: work, work-out, hygiene, nap, adult socializing, kid fun n' game and late night beers.
(Note: Scarlet and Liam were wonderfully well-behaved while playing with their peers today. Liam was A DOLL OF LOVE as he "played" so perfectly with another 2 year-old and entertained himself beautifully for hours. Scarlet declared Amelia--another 5 year-old alpha female--as her new BFF. That could've gone the other way for sho...)

Worst Part of the Day-
This fitting it all in jazz does not allow for much organizing. Slightly behind in the world of laundry.

Monday January 12, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Busy, productive morning with gym, speech, lunch and naps. Also touched base with pal Stacia to plan my upcoming DC grrrls weekend. Can't WAIT - should be so much fun (make up lessons from a Stila rep are being set up - so fun!) It will be relaxing and refreshing to spend a short time away.
Also had the home inspection today - Erik and his brother met the inspector out at the house. All seems to be pretty good. Maybe some small questions ... but nothing major.

Worst Part of the Day - Very tired and lethargic today - not sure if I'm fighting off some sort of sickness? One bad thing about preschool - I've never been this sick before!!

Sunday January 11, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - Erik did get up with all four kiddos (even after getting home at 1:30 a.m.), but it was so loud, I was soon roused from bed. And really - four children?? Quite a bit. Getting each one fed and happy was quite a task and we were both beat!

Best Part of the Day - Headed over to pick up Erik's car from one of his co-worker's house. We stayed for a couple hours with Quinn and their three year old playing nicely and Wes being slightly naughty, but nothing too out of control. Wes has been in a GREAT mood as of late - this makes him a tich more naughty, but much nicer to be around. Am ready for bed, bed, bed.

Saturday January 10, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Erik took the kiddos to the Nature Museum and so I had a leisurely time getting to the gym and then popped into Trader Joe's. Then took a long, hot shower and cruised the Internet. Nice. Then got ready to have my guests (nephews Jack and Carson) over while Erik, Ann and Chris attended the Panthers playoff game. They came over around 6 p.m. and the boyz were all giddy, giddy to see each other - thoroughly entertained each other for two hours.

Worst Part of the Day - Getting those boyz to sleep was just a slight challenge - but it was at the end of the day and mama/aunt molly was BEAT. I finally had to lay down the law and then all was silent. Sigh.
Too bad about the Panthers - a big loss and not even a good showing!!!

Friday January 9, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Will-O had some music stuff to do in the evening which gave way for abit of luscious freetime/downtime. Sigh. The house is looking back to norm. (Less like the mentally ill have taken over.) Whew.

Worst Part of the Day-
I cleaned and tidied for roughly five hours today. Five. (wtf?)

Happy 38th Anniversary Mom & Dad---wow, that's long.

Friday January 9, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - Okay, okay so we knew it was just a matter of time ... Wes' Froggie Softie (love of his life - napkin, best friend, throw toy, comforter, germ carrier) is missing. We left childcare at the gym and he was in the bag (I was double checking as I KNEW it was just a matter of time). We got home - I checked the bag and he was gone. I called the gym and they checked the parking lot (Wes was having a fit when we left the gym so he could have plucked it from the bag and thrown it) ... but no luck. Erik checked again when he went this evening. No luck. Uh oh.

Best Part of the Day - Had a leftover Border's gift certificate and bought some books for the kiddos. I, unwittingly, spent the EXACT amount on the gift card ... how can that be? It was simply amazing - a little miracle in the middle of the day.

Thursday January 8, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - Didn't get any real relax/free time while the kiddos were in preschool due to the fact that I'm in house buying paperwork hell. I had to find, scan and send all sorts of documents (still missing our '06 Tax Return - where the sam hill is it??)

Best Part of the Day - Dare I say .... completing the house buying paperwork task? I felt so accomplished, organized and on top of it all. I think I need a job outside the home - it was exhilarating (seriously!) Lame - but I had a high from checking off that list all day.
Also Erik was trying to say there was some sort of football championship on tv tonight? Um yeah - the Dillon Panthers championship sucka! He did DVR the Florida/OK game and we watched the last episode - whoa, whoa! Bring on Season Two!!

Thursday January 8, 2008

Best Part of the Day-
Resting at 7:45pm. Covers so warm.

Worst Part of the Day-
Up vastly toooooooo late last night. Felt out of it and disorganized all day. Dare I admit I went to an 8am Dr. appt non-showered...for a pelvic exam!!!! Ummmmm, yeah. What is up??? Also the home appears as if mentally ill people dwell inside...oh, perhaps they do. Perhaps the same type of scuzzy peeps who go to doc appointments with out practicing hygiene. Nice.

Explanation for shower skip:
Here's the deal:
Up at 6am with chits: diap changed, assisted in getting kids dressed, made healthy breakfast & supervised actual eating (as opposed to throwing food), readied Miss S. for school--backpack, lunch, homework, hair combing, tooth brushing, snow gear (and also staying on her ass, 'cause she tends to stall in AM); got Miss S. to school bus by 7am, additional prep for Liam to come to doc with me (he has 2 yr well-child check following)--dressed the boy in hipster 2 year-old wear 'cause we're gonna be in public, wiped runny/crusty nose 10 times (his), packed diap bag, assembled necessary winter wear for both, left home by 7:45...no food, no drink, no shower for me...did brush teeth, though. Arrrggghh.

Wednesday January 7, 2008

Best Part of the Day-
Playing the board game, Cranium, mid-week with friends and wine. Silly fun, but must say--we crushed 'em! (Who knew I could not hum for sh*t?!)

Worst Part of the Day-
The kiddos would simply not wind down this pm. I usually put them down before I make my grand exit for evening fun n' games. Not so, tonight. The kids were "wound up", as people over 50 say...they were running out of beds, jumping, wrestling, playing. Neither seemed to be into listening to a word I was saying. For Will-O's part, he lay lounging on a couch amidst it all unphased--watching the M.U. b-ball game on t.v. while the chits ran around like crazed monkeys let loose in a family home. I was mildly irked by his laid backness...he was just looking at me like, just chill out, man--let kids be kids. I'm all for kids--(just tucked in, sleeping by 7pm.)
At 8-ish, I left the house feeling unnerved by the loose ends that remained untied (kids awake!) Must let it go, let it go...

Wednesday January 7, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - Just as I'm finishing up reading Quinn his third and final pre-nap book (Bad Dog Marley ironically), Clarence goes to a corner of the room and heaves up a steaming, fully formed pile o' puke. I about puked myself cleaning it up. "Disgusting" said Quinn in Quinnspeak. Indeed.

Best Part of the Day - Long, long naps for the boyz. Erik home early. Dinner and more Friday Night Lights - one more episode and we're done with Season One. SOOOOO good - can't stop thinking about it!!

Tuesday January 6, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - Rain, rain and more rain. The skies of Charlotte have been grey since about the New Year. I, on accident, turfed my next door neighbors side lawn. A long driveway and a long car are not a good combination for this depth perception challenged gal. And these people are super sweet and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their lawn (they have people come to work on it twice a week and are constantly picking and pruning and maintaining it). Shite - must be more careful when backing up five times per day.

Best Part of the Day - Oh preschool! Thank GOD you are back. I dropped off Wes (in tears) and Quinn (in happy smiles) and did some stress free grocery shopping and returns at the mall. When I picked up Wes, his teachers said they had never seen him happier at school - good for me, good for them. It all works out in the end, no?

NOTE - Last week we had left Quinn's softie at Chris and Ann's house. So (in an impulse move as Quinn was not hysterical, simply sad) I opened up the replacement, just in case, brand new softie. Well then old softie was found and returned to us. So we had two softies. Erik said "we'd better put one away." And I said "oh it doesn't matter. How is he going to lose two?" And Erik said "he'll hide them together." (He loves to hide softies and then forget.) One day later ... softies are MIA. We both look EVERYWHERE for them (Erik mostly looking with a smirky, I TOLD YOU SO look about him. And not just a look, there were some "I told you so's" said as well. ) Finally today as we are about to leave for preschool, I found them. But I waited until he got home, right before his nap to reveal them (they were tucked back in some magazines in a cupboard). "Two Softs" is now his favorite thing to say as he gazes lovingly at his pals. And no, I've not taken one away. I think I know all the hiding places now.

Tuesday January 6, 2008

Best Part of the Day-
Zoinks. Went to BodyPump class. (Wow, am I weak.) It was pretty fun to: 1. be in a class rocking out to radio hits 2. be pumping iron. (What a bad ass???) At the end of the class the teacher courteously introduced herself to me and inquired about my weight lifting history. "When was the last time you lifted weights?" Ah, never before tonight. Let's pump it up, sista.

Worst Part of the Day-
The non-architecturally sound garage door is at it again. Broken, broken; lug nuts flying around, little bally things no longer on track. Jeez. Thank heavens I have this trusty blog and I can look back and find out just when this dang thing repaired last. I say 4 month ago...it falls to pieces every 4 months...fudgsicles.

Monday January 5, 2009

Worst Part of the Day - I feel so bad for Erik. In order to practice in the state of NC he has to take this Dental Exam. On the exam are things he has not done in 10 years (fillings, root canal). He is sooo stressed about it and so annoyed he has to take it. When you become a 'specialist' you take an oath not to practice general dentistry - so it's odd that then they make you do general dentistry on a test in order to practice a speciality. Sucky.

Best Part of the Day - Had Quinn back in Speech for the first time in two weeks and his Speech Path was amazed at how good he is sounding! She also did say that seeing Quinn and Wes is "truly the highlight of her day." Isn't that sweet? I bet if I only saw them for 30 minutes twice a week, I'd want more of them too :-) Just kidding - but you know what I mean. Still it's very nice to hear and Quinn is an excellent little student - sits in his chair, tries hard and is just so sweet. Wes about tears apart the office.

Sunday January 4, 2009

Best Part of the Day - Went to Plaza Fiesta - our favorite indoor playgym. The kiddos just took off and played and played. Erik was a trouper and watched out for Wes, while I lounged and chatted with Chris and Ann. Then we had some yummy Mexican comida and headed on home to nap our kiddos.

Worst Part of the Day - When oh when will come the time when I awake on a Sunday, pour myself a coffee and read the newspaper from front to back? Years, you say? Years and years? That's what I thought. Sigh.

Saturday January 3, 2009

Best Part of the Day - After the gym, Erik and I took the boyz for their first fast food experience - kids meals at Burger King. There was an indoor playarea that was pretty cool. They downed the transfat laden meal and then played and played. Naps lasted a LONG time though.
Also had Chris, Ann and their boyz over for an impromptu dinner. It was sooo much fun (our boyz - much better behaved esp as we put Wes down at his normal dinner time). They ended up staying until 10:30 p.m. and we had tons of good fun and laughs and the other three boyz were occupied by spilling things, watching videos or general merry making.

Worst Part of the Day - Had this fight with Erik that really brought up how stressed he is over this test he has to take to be able to practice in NC. But does that give license for mean comments (from either one of us?), I think not. He (again) called me sullen - which this time around I actually think is UNTRUE. Frazzled - yes! Sullen - HELL no! I'm positively Sally freakin' Sunshine after dealing with sick kiddos, him working 24/7, no sort of break from the kiddos and so on. Booooooo.

Friday January 2, 2009

Best Part of the Day - With nothing to do or watch on a Friday night - Erik and I began the FNL (that's Friday Night Lights to you non-watchers) on DVD lovingly loaned to me by Miss Megan. We are instant addicts! The critics were right - it is the best show I wasn't watching. And what a perfect blending o' the sexes watch - football for Erik and teen drama for me (not that Erik is anti the teen drama - he will certainly watch any and all with me).

Worst Part of the Day - Had plans to take the kiddos to see the fave Owl after the gym. But Quinn said "no owl. Home." By the time we got home he said "owl" and I had to inform him that only Mama is allowed to change her prerogative at the last minute as she does so without whining, crying, or flailing her limbs (most of the time.) To BED with you twos I say!

Monday January 5, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
A grade school friend's father passed away New Year's Day and today was the funeral. (Not a traditional "best part", admittedly...) I ditched work early and drove to our home town. I picked up another grade school chum at his home and we went to the services together. It was enjoyable to see some of our mutual/old friends--we have all known each other since were were gangly 10 and 11 year-olds. I knew I was with old buds when my BFF from 7th grade grabbed my butt while waiting in the visitation line--good times with peeps who knew ya when. Also necessary to support friends when they need it. (Golly gee whiz I know some solid/good-hearted people.)

Worst Part of the Day-
I have a small hill of work to do and a pit of a home to clean...when oh when will I do it??

Sunday January 4, 2008

Best Part of the Day-
Cuz S. and I went to the M.U. b-ball game (I guess I am all of one sudden a Marquette b-ball fanatic...) using my parents' season tix (they are out of town attending Aunt Helen's funeral, God bless her and may she rest in peace.) A fun time swilling 16 oz. beers mid-day. Also, we crushed Cinnci!!!
Randomly saw a college pal in the crowd--fantastic to see her and her adorable family and chat for a minute--we will get togetha in '09--I swear.

Worst Part of the Day-
Will-O and I took the chits to see some of the downtown Christmas lights and then do some ice skating at the cutsie pie outdoor rink. Winter fun mostly in theory. It was a funny/fun time, but it was bitter, bitter cold. Our plan was to see the lights, so we had to wait until dusk, right? Too bad the temp drops about 20 degress at dusk--duh. The kids didn't seem to notice, but the icy winds were cutting through my instantly flimsy outerwear. I cut the outing short (Will-O was freezing, too), nixed the ice skating (Scarlet was irked) and pushed for eating oven baked pizzas at Louisa's where we could admire the park lights from the luxurious warmth of the indoors (this placated the bunch.)

Saturday January 3, 2008

Best Part of the Day-
We did family workout session at the Y.  (Interpretation:  kids in KidCare while parents work-out).  I have plans to be buff.  Or at least not flab city.

Also, attended M.U. women's b-ball game with parentals and Cuz S this eve.  Fun times, good peeps, free Jimmy Johns, and they won.  (More personal inspiration to go for ripped biceps).

Worst Part of the Day-
A lot happening for a Saturday.  Let it be known that weekends are simply not relaxing--no different than any other day.

Friday January 2, 2008

Best Part of the Day-
A friend and I took our girlies for a "girls night out".  Dinner and then downtown to board the Jingle Bus--a $1.00 bus that takes ya on a tour of 3 dowtown parks tour and their Christmas lights.  (AND free hot chocolate.  FYI-Scarlet is a h.c. junkie).  Super funny and always a treat to be out with the ladies (short and tall).

Also--great talk with Will-O regarding family calendar, our status, future plans, etc.  Good to get things out on the table.  Whew.

Worst Part of the Day-
Recall the precious comforter I recently laundered?  Scarlet spilled some cheap bronzer (make-up I have not worn or seen in months...) on it this morn.  The result was a small hill of sparkling tan sitting atop the stark white comforter---ahhhh.  I should have taken a photo and submitted it to a modern art museum (amazing color contrast, poetic use of make-up defiling the plain canvas...).  Instead I got out my sparkling water (I declare it does more than club soda) and Seventh Generation spray.  Precious, my arse.

Thursday January 1, 2009

HAPPY NEW YEAR -
The best part about this day is that it can only get better because today .... really .... sucked. Erik ended up on-call and was gone for half the morning (the whole deal was that we were all going to hang out in the morning because they always do so well at their house - tons of toys, cousins to play with, ect. ect.). Our children were either whining, crying, screaming, tugging on my leg or yelling. I have never (I do mean never) seen Wes throw a tantrum like he threw today. Quinn kept asking to go "home" all day long. And really we should have gone home ... but Erik was so looking forward to watching the MU game with his brother so we kept on staying. I think by the end that we wore out our welcome and it was horrible. In the car on the way home - both were screaming and crying and Erik and I were both tired and over it. It was so great to put them to bed. I'm still recovering.

Special prayers to our Great Aunt Helen who passed away last night. What a cool, special lady (and I do mean lady).

Wednesday December 31, 2008

Worst Part of the Day - We are heading over the Chris and Ann's for the evening ... they have a babysitter and neighbors having a party. So we'll sleep over and hang out the next day. It was just a cluster trying to get everyone dressed, packed and out the door. Then Erik thought that I was getting dressed prior to getting to their house (umm - no, I'm not going to wear a sequined skirt to give the boyz dinner.) So he was dilly dallying and I was growing impatient .... so we worked that on out and finally got out the door with two crying kiddos and a wish for some New Years Eve cocktails.

Best Part of the Day - Since we had a babysitter we (adults) decided to head out for a quick dinner. My FAVE - dinner without the kiddos. It was delish and relaxing and sooooo fun. Then we headed to the party (about four doors down) and had some neighborly chit chat and minimal cocktails. Brought in the New Year and then headed home by 12:45 a.m.

Tuesday December 30, 2008

Worst Part of the Day - Kiddos still on the mend - feeling a little crazy. Can't wait for them to be healthy and this stupid, long-ass holiday break to be OVER. Hating it.

Best Part of the Day - Erik worked really late and so I drank wine, watched some bad TV and then did some reading. Feel very, very, very relaxed for the first time in a long time.

Most Exciting Part of the Day - We put a lowball offer on a house on Friday. They did not accept at first ... but then today they came back and accepted the offer! So it looks like we will be homeowners ... again.

Monday December 29, 2008

Worst Part of the Day - Both kiddos are still kind of sick - the fevers are off and on, but then noses have begun to flow. I really, really, really wanted to make the 9:30 a.m. gym class for some blow off steam and away from child time .... but I had to sit myself down and say "Mama - for the good of your children and the other children in the childcare, you must stay home." I pouted for a minute and then recovered.

Best Part of the Day - It is making lemonade out of lemons if you have to scrap your morning plans and do five loads of laundry instead? Or is it just lame? Well at least it's all done.

Thursday January 1, 2009

Best Part of the Day-
Happy New Year.  I met my nephew today!!  He is a nugget o' love.  One forgets how teeny tiny newborns are!!!  He is a sweet treat and kinda reminds me of Liam at that age (11 days).  I love how they stare at you with the eyes of a calm forest creature.  He seems quite alert for being such a youngen--and is honestly a dear.  (His parents seem well-adjusted, too.)  Very fun for the cousins to hang.  Scarlet did an excellent job holding him.   Precious.
Also had lunch with dear friends who I have not seen in far too long.  Our hostess made Lucky Day soup--a delish vegetarian concoction that is to bring luck to all who eat of it.  What a perfect start to this '09!

Worst Part of the Day-
Just the packing up, readying process prior to a road trip--when one adult is attempting to get 2 little ones (and her bad self) out of the home!
This is a snapshot:  one moment the house was pretty clean and we were basically set to go.  The kids were in their coats, hats, etc.  I went out to the car to deliver 2 bags and courteously warm-up the car.  When I came back into the home 4o seconds later, I saw a puddle of orange juice and Liam rolling in it crying because he is anti his hat and the act of wrestling his hat off landed him in the puddle. (?)  Also a pile of my work papers (think computer paper with perforated edges so it is all connected...) was strewn onto the kitchen floor like a Chinese dragon, AND a basket of laundry was overturned b/c Miss S. was trying to locate different socks at the last minute.
I was only gone for 40 seconds.

Wednesday December 31, 2008

Best Part of the Day-
Yummily and anti-socially boycotting this holiday by hitting the sack around 8-ish.  Hip, hip...

Worst Part(s) of the Day-
8 reasons to end '08:
1.  Liam woke me up at around 1am with his screams (and they were not screams of delight to ring in the New Year...).  He was screaming bloody murder like a newborn with colic.  Right away I thought, great--ear infection.  I picked him up and he didn't feel feverish, but he wouldn't be consoled either by my cuddling, so I went to get the meds.  I gave Tylenol and then Motrin 'cause he seriously would not break his crying fit.  I really thought something was emergently wrong for a few minutes.  I kept asking if something hurt and he would not respond with words--just wails.  After almost 1 hour (1 hour!) of him screaming I put him back to bed--I was stumped.  He promptly climbed out of the crib (still screaming), walked down the steps like a man on a mission and went into the kitchen.  Still screaming his head off he got his kitchen stool, pulled it over to the snack cupboard and grabbed a bag of pretzels and then said with a whine, "pretzel."  Are you kidding me???  The child is screaming like he is being tortured for nearly an hour and it's all because he wants a snack at 2am?????
2.  Despite the kids being ready to rock to go at 6am, we did not/could not successfully leave the house until 9am for the sitter's.  Slow and unproductive morn.  (Perhaps due to choppy/crappy sleep on mama's part.)
3.  Because we live in an ungodly cold region, when I went to drop the kids off at the sitter's my car door lock mechanism froze...it was not frozen shut, it froze in such a way that the driver's side door could not shut.  Nice.  Super ghetto style I had to drive home holding the door with my weakling left bicep.  I then spent the next 2 hours unfreezing it (in the freezing cold garage) with a hairdryer and a screwdriver.  Seriously?
4.  I went to mail packages and waited in the slowest of slow lines.  Once I got to the front the postal man said I had the wrong boxes and I had to step to the side and then get back in...blah blah blah (I'm was gonna go mildly postal...)
5.  I went to work for only 1.5 hours of my needed 4 hours...I have a moun-TAIN of work!!!
6.  I missed my out-of-town friend who was to stop by my house at 12-ish because I was uber late with the non-productive stupid-o morning.
7.  I packed the kids up to go the Y to I could blow off some steam with a good workout in the afternoon.  The kidcare was closed early due to New Year's Eve...of course.
8.  In the evening we went to pick out kid movies so Scarlet could stay up 1 hour later for the madcap holiday.  She and Liam were so crazed in the video store that I had to nix it mid-way through waiting in the check out line.
Good bye 2008.  It'll be fine in '09.   (I'm hoping.)
